Rebozos and Recetas – A Tribute to the Mamacitas

This book, Rebozos and Recetas, is dedicated to all the Mamacitas, especially mine, who have carried the wisdom of tradition wrapped in love. A rebozo is more than just a fashionable accessory. It’s a living thread of history, woven with the stories of the Mestizaje—the beautiful blending of Mexico’s indigenous roots with European influence.

This garment, cherished for centuries, has grown from a simple shawl to a powerful symbol of Mexican nationalism and the beauty of womanhood. The rebozo accompanies a woman through every stage of life. From the gentle wrap cradling a newborn to its role as a sacred covering in moments of devotion, as protection from the sun, as a loving carrier for a child, and even as a cherished part of weddings and funerals—it is a witness to the intimate moments that define a life. It embodies strength, resilience, warmth, and endurance, offering a comforting embrace through both joy and sorrow.
Its resurgence today speaks to a desire to reconnect with these values, and through this book, we hope to share its story.

My wish is that women everywhere, regardless of heritage, may see their own beauty and strength mirrored in the rebozo. And what is Mexico without its kitchens, filled with the aromas and stories of recetas passed down through the generations? The kitchen is the heart of the home, a place where abuelitas whisper secrets of flavor, where mothers nurture with each simmering pot, and where daughters carry these treasures forward. Every dish is seasoned not only with chiles and spices but with amor—the unspoken ingredient that transforms every recipe into a memory.

In this book, we celebrate both the rebozo and the rich culinary traditions of Mexico, bound together by the love and strength of Las Mujeres.

After all, Mexico is a land where the matriarch reigns , reminding us all that, in the end, we all come from a mujer. Through stories, recipes, and memories, we invite you to wrap yourself in the warmth of this heritage and savor each moment, just as you would a lovingly prepared dish.

Storytelling is about sharing our human heart; it’s about connection.

We share in the hope of understanding. We open up with our deepest truths, releasing something profound in our soul. We share to build community.

Throughout history, people have gathered around the table, breaking bread and exchanging stories. Many cultures, especially my Mexican ancestors, hold this tradition as sacred—a moment to come together, to listen, and to be heard. It’s a ritual of connection that transcends generations.

We tell our stories to encourage others to share theirs. It’s the timeless cycle of storytelling, woven through centuries.

We gather in a circle of trust and say, “Here is my journey.” Then we listen to the journeys shared by others.

We create space for ourselves, then invite others to step in. We offer our stories and welcome what is given in return. We speak, then we listen. We shift from storytellers to witnesses.

Storytelling isn’t about uncovering our past merely to reveal our shadows. It’s about teaching and learning together. In sharing, we say, “This is my story.”

Here it is !
I’m actually pretty proud of myself 😂

Portraying the mother in "Just Wave" was an honor, especially as it reflects the struggles and resilience of countless families like my parents did . With just one day to learn my lines, I dove deep into the emotional landscape of the character, whose story echoes that of my father, a dedicated farm worker to this date at 73 years old .

This film is a tribute to all the families who have endured, struggled to communicate, and worked tirelessly to provide for their loved ones. Thank you for embracing our story, which mirrors the strength and sacrifices.

Last night as I laid in my bed and read the private messages a few of you sent me regarding my post of feeling through life’s highs and lows it hit me .
I have the perfect location for a staycation.

I just need 20 women to sign up and only 12 over night .

The woman that passed her passion of cooking to me!

To the left is my Mom at 26 with 5 kids and to the right it’s me at 47
No matter how tired she was from working a long day she would come home and cook a home made dinner. Ni que TV dinners ni que nada ! 😂
My sister mini and I would always help cook and clean. Except I always hated washing dishes so she would end up somehow doing them most of the time 😂
