From October 15 through December 7, you can review your Medicare Advantage and prescription drug coverage and make changes for January 1.

💵 Seeing headlines about a $90 Medicare payment? Here’s the easy-to-understand explanation. Here is some clarification from us here at Guided Healthcare Solutions.

This is a ONE-TIME $90 rebate to help with Medicare Part B premiums—not an extra $90 every month.

✅ WHO QUALIFIES?
You must meet ALL of these requirements:
• Live in the United States.
• Have Original Medicare Part B.
• NOT receive Medicaid assistance paying your Part B premium.
• NOT pay the higher-income Medicare surcharge called IRMAA.

❌ Medicare Advantage members are NOT eligible, even if they pay their own Part B premium.

Having a Medicare Supplement (Medigap) policy does not, by itself, disqualify you—you still have Original Medicare and must meet the other requirements.

💡 WHAT DOES “HIGHER INCOME” MEAN?
For 2026, the surcharge generally starts above $109,000 in modified adjusted gross income for individual filers or $218,000 for married couples filing jointly. The key is whether you pay IRMAA.

📅 WHEN AND HOW?
Most eligible people should receive an automatic direct deposit around October 8. Others will receive a paper check later in October. No application or plan change is required.

☎️ To confirm eligibility: 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227).
For payment status: Social Security at 1-800-772-1213, beginning October 15.

Medicare marketing season is here—and unfortunately, so are misleading messages, scare tactics, and sales practices that don’t follow the rules.

One to watch for: unsolicited Medicare plan marketing texts, including automated messages. Medicare marketing rules prohibit unsolicited texts promoting Medicare Advantage or prescription drug plans. If you never requested contact or gave permission to receive marketing texts from that agent or organization, that’s a red flag.

And yes, that applies whether the sender is across the country or right here locally. A local number doesn’t make an unsolicited sales pitch acceptable.

You do not have to respond, share personal information, or make a rushed decision about your coverage. Save a screenshot of the message and the sender’s number. There are ways to report improper marketing, and speaking up can help protect other Medicare beneficiaries.

This week I had the opportunity to attend the NABIP Southwest Virginia Conference in Lynchburg, Va. alongside fellow insurance professionals, carrier representatives, healthcare leaders, members of the Virginia State Corporation Commission, and state lawmakers, including Senator Mark Peake.

One of the biggest takeaways was a reminder that our job is about much more than enrolling someone in a plan. Healthcare and Medicare continue to change every year, and staying educated helps ensure we’re providing our clients with the most accurate guidance possible.

A little more context on the Medicare Part D headlines…

The recent discussion isn’t about Medicare Part D going away. It’s about a temporary federal program that helped stabilize Part D premiums coming to an end.

Carriers have already submitted their 2027 plans to CMS, but the details haven’t been released yet. Until those plans are finalized, no one knows exactly how premiums, deductibles, or prescription costs may change.

That’s why I encourage all of my clients to schedule a Medicare plan review every fall. Once the 2027 plans are available, we’ll compare your options and make sure you’re in the plan that best fits your needs—not just the one you had last year.

If Facebook has you worried about Medicare… let’s talk first! Below is an example of a headline that is 100% INCORRECT.

I’ve already started seeing posts claiming “Medicare Part D is ending in 2027.” That claim is false and is a great example of how sensational headlines can create confusion.

Medicare changes from time to time, but there’s a big difference between changes and elimination.

If you ever come across a Medicare article, video, or social media post that leaves you scratching your head, send it to me before you assume the worst. I’ll gladly explain what’s actually happening—in plain English, without the scare tactics.

Helping people understand Medicare is just as important as helping them choose the right plan.
