Te'Jon Lucas discovered early in life the impact a community and a mentor can have on one's life. 
Basketball has taken Te'Jon so many places in his life. First it got him connected to the Silver Springs community center. He was mentored by Mr. Anthony Mackey and educated by so many others. Then his basketball skills grew. It took him from Silver Springs to AAU to high school stardom. That led to NBA top 100 camp, and on to Illinois after dozens of college scholarship offers. Later he played at Illinois and UW-Milwaukee. Now he dons the blue and white of the BYU Cougars. 

When the game was nearly taken away from him during his rise, he had to figure out if his commitment to the game was worth it.

He's played around the country and met so many amazing people. Through that he realized that with basketball he can provide for his family and give back to his community. That vision keeps him focused on his purpose.

2021 was rough to say the least, much harder than 2020.

It felt similar to an experience our family had while on vacation a couple years ago. Julie and our son Tommy had a paddle board and were wading out into the ocean. They were having a lot of fun and I was laughing as I watched them from the shore. Part way out you would bump into a reef wall that you could climb over into the ocean beyond or stay in the calmer waters of the cove we were at.

However, this day the cove waters were not calm. The waves were increasing in ferocity.

Julie called for me to help and I swam over to them. Immediately, I realized the issue we were in. The waves were crashing against us and then dragging us outside the cove. You could keep yourself in one spot by standing on the reef wall but none of us had shoes so it was quickly cutting up our feet. Tommy was starting to panic and internally, I was too.

After a few failed attempts to swim against the current, I realized our last chance to not get swept out would be to swim about 20-30 feet with the current from the reef wall to the nearest shore and then walk back up to our spot on the jagged, slippery rocks.

We kicked off the wall and swam with all our might. Just when I didn’t think we would make it, I extended my feet down and could just barely touch the sand and rocks of the shore. It was enough to anchor us as the next wave crashed into us and then we slowly made our way back into the cove’s calmer/shallower waters.

What started out as fun, turned into worry, had moments of terror, and thankfully ended with relief.

2021 was a similar roller coaster and as we close out the year, the relief is setting in.

Do I wish 2021 had been easier? Maybe, but here’s the thing.

There is something to be said for enduring through hard times.

There are things you learn and a person you become that just otherwise wouldn’t be possible.

So as we look to 2022, If you’re not to relief yet, don’t give up. Keep enduring. In the deepness of the river of doubt, the bank of hope is just on the other side.

Don’t let anyone convince you otherwise.

Dream. Believe. Achieve.

PROVO UTAH, November 9, 2021- - On the launch of the season, BYU Basketball player Seneca Knight announces his NIL deal with Stele Hats (pronounced STEE-lee), joining teammate Te’Jon Lucas. Stele is a unique brand concept sharing the underrated stories of inspiring people through hats and other apparel.

Knight is expected to provide a spark of scoring and experience to BYU this season and this NIL deal will be a fun way to share more of who he is with the BYU fanbase.

Knight began his collegiate career at San Jose State finishing his last full season in the 2019-2020 season ending right before the covid pandemic. His last season he averaged 17.1 points, 2.4 assists, and 5.7 rebounds on 40.3% shooting from the field and 29.2% from deep.

Beyond basketball, Knight has a unique story from where he was raised, to the loss of friends and family, and the sacrifices he’s made to get to where he is today.

The deal includes a revenue share between Knight and Stele. They will be releasing a signature hat and shirt during the season.

Brock here! I had the unique experience last night to be recognized by the for their 30 in their 30s award. It was amazing to be mentioned amongst so many wonderful people and businesses in the St George community where Stele HQ resides.

When they asked me my favorite quote for the magazine article I knew exactly what I would say because it is our mission statement here at Stele.

PROVO UTAH, August 27, 2021- - Recent BYU Basketball commit Te’Jon Lucas announces his NIL deal, a first of its kind, with Stele Hats (pronounced STEE-lee). Stele Hats is a unique brand concept sharing the underrated stories of inspiring people through hats and other apparel.

Te’Jon is expected to provide a depth of experience to BYU this season and this NIL deal which is one of the first for the team will be an opportunity for friends and fans alike to get to know his story.

Last season he averaged 14.9 points, 5.8 assists, and 4.6 rebounds on 39% shooting from the field and 28% from deep.

The signature hat plans to be released around the first of November.
