The best way for me to start posting on this page is to tell you about my journey in the mortgage business. I’ll have to tell my story in segments-
Part one -
I know what you’re already thinking BORING 😴!! Lol
I’ll try to keep it light and incredibly self serving !!😂
It all started 33 years ago when after a 3 year PT stint in brown (UPS) I decided to do something different and more fulfilling.
That’s when a poor, yet incredibly handsome 21 year old Italian boy 😉 realized that he wanted to make lots of money and work behind a desk. So I started working at Avco financial services in Waterbury and reality set in very quickly. I had come in at the tail end of a horrible US economic period, and little did I know that I was entering a lifetime of volatility at the hands of politicians (more on this later). I actually thought I was going to make Mortgages to people right out of the gate and rake in commission, but Noooooo- first I had to learn about credit, how to read credit reports, learn to evaluate clients ability to pay, make loan decisions and even close the loans, and then they sat me down for the talk .....my boss -“You pay your bills every month- right kid?”
“Well you’ve heard the saying people in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones?” Me- “Yes”
“Well if you pay your bills then your house is made of concrete and that makes it ok for you to go after the people who don’t pay with a clear conscience!”
“Now sit down and call these 300 people and get my money back!!”
We used to call it dialing for dollars
And that’s what it truly was, and when people would tell me on the phone that there was nobody home or their parents were in the shower, I believed them, because I was so naive and trusting.
In those old days they used to take collateral (items or cars) as security on loans. And when those loans went bad, guess who’s job it was to repo the merchandise? ME!!
I learned a lot very fast, and
2 years later I was running my own branch. I had some tremendous success and epic failures, and the 5 years I spent doing this job, shaped me into who I am today.
When people ask me now - How do you know so much about credit and credit repair???
How do you know what collectors are saying to me and how to beat them??? Well this is how I know!!
Back then I thought it would all last forever , but then something that was never very common became all too regular—- foreclosure !!! The losses mounted and the company had to close. The bottom had dropped out, and it was time for a new job.
To be continued........
