My doctoral journey was not easy, and my life did not always unfold the way I wanted or expected. But through every challenge, I learned to keep moving forward, even when I could not see what was waiting for me ahead.
Being far from my family, friends, and loved ones was difficult. I worked two jobs, continued my education through my bachelor’s, master’s, and doctorate, and faced personal and health challenges along the way. There were times when stress affected me physically and I needed infusion treatments, yet I continued working, studying, teaching, and pursuing the goal I had set for myself.
And today, it feels different.
Today, my chair officially called me “Dr.” and I received an email from my university recognizing me as part of the 2026 Honors College.
This moment reminded me of something I never want to forget: we are often much stronger than we realize.
Life may not always give us what we expect, when we expect it, or in the way we imagined. But we can choose to keep fighting, keep growing, keep believing, and trust God through the process.
Every difficult chapter taught me something.
Every setback made me stronger.
Every sacrifice brought me closer to this moment.
Life is not always what we want it to be—it becomes what we are willing to fight for, learn from, and earn through perseverance.
Today, I am grateful.
Today, I am proud.
Today, I can finally say:
Dr. Khatereh Banani. 8/20/2026
