🏡 Housing Affordability: Let’s Talk Solutions 🏡
This week, President Donald J Trump announced plans to push for a ban on large institutional investors purchasing additional single-family homes, with the goal of improving housing affordability for everyday buyers.
While limiting investor competition is definitely a part of the conversation, we believe real affordability requires a bigger-picture approach. Here’s what we’d love to see happen:
✔️ More housing supply – Making it easier and faster to build new homes is essential. Demand continues to outpace supply, and that imbalance drives prices up.
✔️ Lower home insurance costs – Insurance premiums are a growing part of monthly payments, and reducing these costs would immediately help homeowners.
✔️ Longer mortgage terms – This may not be a popular take, but it’s a realistic one case by case. About 90% of buyers choose a 30-year mortgage over a 15-year. When you factor in long-term appreciation, real estate ownership still outperforms renting for most families.
At Credence Mortgage Advisors, we believe informed buyers make stronger financial decisions. Housing affordability isn’t solved by a single policy—it’s solved through smart planning, responsible lending, and sustainable growth.
