Details on the Executive Orders that President Trump signed yesterday.
$400 in additional unemployment insurance- $300 funded federally and $100 by the states. Each state will need to put this into action. These run into December of this year.
Payroll Tax Cut - actually more of a tax postponement. The tax is still due, and if employers opt to cut this tax, people will get a smaller tax return next year. Potentially.
Student loan relief is an extension of the prior relief thru the end of the year. Interest does not accrue and payments do not have to be made. Federal loans only - not applicable to private loans.
Eviction moratorium- this is really just a suggestion. Not much substance here. More action needed by congress.

Now the bad news - HOLY S—- - I didn’t think I’d ever see a -35% GDP number.

But ... here we are. All we can do is keep moving forward right?

New Jobless Claims are out this morning and they continue to be a good news/bad news story. Also a “worse news” story is brewing.
Bad news - 3.8 million people are newly out of work. That is still staggering and horrifying.
Good news - that awful number is continuing to trend downward, so in a way things are improving.
Worse news - states are running out of money to pay for Unemployment Insurance. This is going to become a bigger story - already has been to a degree. Stay tuned. People are counting on these benefits to get through this.

Once again we have bad news leading to a jump in stocks - at least pre-market. This was even worse news than what was expected - estimates were around a -3.5% decline compared to the -4.8% that we saw.
Theories:
- The has economic news will bring more stimulus which is good for the stock market
- The stock market is already pricing in “going back to work” meaning next quarter won’t be as bad
- Stocks are just on another “random walk”
- Don’t try to know the unknowable. Just have a plan and stick to it.
