When I was eight or nine years old, my father was driving the babysitter, an African-American woman we knew as Mrs. Smith home to where she lived on the southside of Bethlehem. She was sitting in front in the passenger seat, and I was in the back the topic of conversation was the television show Julia, which featured a very light skinned Caucasian featured with African ancestry. Mrs. Smith said to my father “When we look at television, we don’t exist.” through the memory of the child, what I believe she meant by this was that not seeing representations of oneself in mass media is diminishing. We'll be getting out the vote this weekend: November 3, 4, 5 and Election Day November 6th! I am serving as staging director for the Democratic Consolidated Campaign out of the office at 801 Easton Road, Willow Grove. We are working to elect Daryl Boling for State Rep., Maria Collett for State Senator, Madeleine Dean for Congress in the 4th District and to re-elect Senator Bob Casey and Governor Tom Wolf.
