The good news? Not everything is urgent.

A few things I’d prioritize now:

💚 Uncategorized transactions — especially anything you don’t recognize.

💚 Personal expenses mixed into the business — get them identified and categorized correctly.

💚 Bank and credit card accounts that aren’t reconciled — the longer these sit, the harder they are to clean up.

💚 New loans, credit cards, equipment purchases, or payroll changes — make sure your bookkeeper knows about them.

And what can wait?

Small cleanup items that don’t affect the accuracy of your financials. Not every little bookkeeping issue needs to become an October emergency.
The goal isn't to have perfect books overnight. It's to tackle the things that matter most now so you're not scrambling later.
A little attention in October can make the rest of the year a whole lot easier. 💚

September always feels like a fresh start. 🍂 Kids are back in school, summer schedules are winding down, and businesses are heading into the final stretch of the year.

It's also a great time to make sure your bookkeeping systems are actually working for you.

A few simple things can make a BIG difference:

💚 Keep personal and business expenses separate.

💚 Let your bookkeeper know when something changes—a new loan, credit card, employee, large purchase, payroll change, etc.

💚 Stay consistent with monthly check-ins instead of waiting until something becomes a problem.
One thing I make a priority with my monthly clients is staying in touch. My check-in emails are specific to their business—what I'm missing, questions I have, things I've noticed, and anything we should keep an eye on.

Good bookkeeping isn't just about getting everything categorized. It's about having systems in place that make running your business a little easier.
Small habits now can save a LOT of time later. 💚

THIS ONE HITS HOME!!! 💚

“I figured I’d clean it all up at tax time.”

I hear this ALL the time from new clients. The problem? Months later, you don’t remember what that Amazon purchase was for, why that random deposit hit, or what half those transactions even were.

It’s absolutely fixable — but it takes more time and usually costs more money to untangle later.

A little bookkeeping each month saves a lot of headaches at tax time.
