Attention all United Healthcare Medicare Advantage plan members!!!

A new Special Enrollment Period (SEP) has been created allowing select beneficiaries in Pennsylvania to shop for coverage until April 30.

Earlier this week, the Shapiro Administration announced an SEP for Medicare Advantage beneficiaries in Pennsylvania with a UnitedHealthcare plan using Lehigh Valley Health Network Providers.

This SEP is a result of contract disputes between Lehigh Valley Health Network and UnitedHealthcare. As of January 26, 2026, over 5,400 United Healthcare Medicare Advantage members lost in-network access to Lehigh Valley Health Network providers after the two parties could not agree on reimbursement levels.

For all those now enrolled in Medicare Advantage Plans …..

The Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period (MAOEP), which runs annually from January 1 through March 31, is a specific enrollment window for people who are already enrolled in a Medicare Advantage (Part C) plan.

Key Details:

Who can use it? — ONLY individuals currently enrolled in a Medicare Advantage plan as of January 1. It does not allow people on Original Medicare to join a Medicare Advantage plan for the first time. But there are different rules if you are leaving group coverage or you recently added Medicare Part A or B

What changes can you make? — During this period, you can make one change to your coverage, such as:

1) Switching to a different Medicare Advantage plan - with or without prescription drug coverage.

2) Dropping your Medicare Advantage plan and returning to Original Medicare Parts A and B. If you do this and want prescription drug coverage, you can also enroll in a standalone Medicare Part D plan before March 31.

When does the new coverage start? — Changes take effect the first day of the month after your request is processed (e.g., a change requested in February starts March 1).

How is it different from the main Medicare Open Enrollment? — The primary Medicare Annual Enrollment Period (also called the Fall Open Enrollment or AEP) runs from October 15 to December 7 each year and allows broader changes for anyone with Medicare, including joining Medicare Advantage for the first time or switching Part D plans. The January–March period is essentially a "second chance" specifically for existing Medicare Advantage enrollees who may be unhappy with their plan after it begins on January 1. Sometimes you don’t uncover problems until you are in a plan.

It is almost time for Medicare's Annual Enrollment Period. I treat every client that calls asking for help understanding Medicare and their choices with respect they deserve and kindness.

Even after all the disrespect, i was still kind. I didn’t fight back the way people expected me to. I swallowed so many words that could have hurt, because i knew that if i spoke them, i could never take them back.

And it wasn’t because i was weak. It was because i understood that some people can only give what they have, and if what they have is pain, then that is all they know how to share.
But there were also times when i doubted it. I asked myself if i was being kind or just letting myself be treated badly. Yet still, i chose kindness, because i didn’t want to carry hate around like it was part of me.

Maybe they will never know the weight of the things they said. Maybe they will never know how many times i cried because of them. Maybe they will never apologize, and maybe that’s okay.
Because i learned that my peace doesn’t depend on their apology. I can forgive in silence and still choose to never stand in the same place again.

So yes, after all the disrespect, i am still kind. Not because it didn’t hurt me, but because i refuse to let anyone turn me into someone i am not.
