🇺🇸 Happy 4th of July!

This year marks my 8th Fourth of July celebrating here in the United States.

When I moved here from the Philippines in 2018 with my daughter, everything felt new—different culture, different weather, different way of life. Like many immigrants, I had to start over and slowly build a new life.

Looking back, it's amazing how much can change in eight years.

Today, I'm not only grateful to call Nebraska home, but I'm also grateful to be building something of my own through MAV Bookkeeping Solutions.

As an immigrant, becoming a business owner is something I never imagined when I first arrived. It has taken a lot of learning, stepping outside my comfort zone, and believing in myself—even when things felt uncertain.

This Independence Day reminds me how fortunate I am to have the opportunity to pursue my goals, continue my education, raise my daughter, and serve fellow small business owners.

To everyone celebrating today, I hope you have a safe and wonderful Fourth of July with your family and friends.

Sundays are usually my reset days.

Sometimes that means planning content, organizing tasks, reviewing bookkeeping work, or just sitting quietly with coffee while preparing mentally for the week ahead 😅

Running a business really teaches you that success is built through small consistent habits—not overnight perfection.

And honestly, I think that applies to bookkeeping too.

A lot of people know me as a bookkeeper now… but my original background is actually in the medical field 👩‍🔬

Before building MAV Bookkeeping Solutions, I graduated with a degree in Medical Laboratory Science and worked in the lab world.

Funny enough, even back then, I already loved organizing things, analyzing details, and working with numbers and systems 😅

Now instead of analyzing lab results, I analyze financial transactions and reconciliations 📊

When I was in the first few months of starting my bookkeeping business years ago, I remember thinking:

“How do business owners keep up with all of this?” 😅

At the time, I was learning, working, building my confidence, and trying to understand the real day-to-day side of running a business—not just the accounting side of it.

And one thing I quickly realized?

Bookkeeping is easy to ignore when you’re busy.

A few uncategorized transactions turn into weeks.

And suddenly everything starts feeling overwhelming.

Back then, I used to think business owners were just “unorganized.”

Now I understand better.
