Choosing a health insurance plan can be overwhelming, but it's important to make an informed decision. Here are some questions to ask yourself when selecting a plan:
Is your primary care physician in-network? It's important to check if your doctor is in the network of the plan you are considering. If not, you may have to pay more out-of-pocket or choose a different doctor.
Are you able to travel and still be covered? If you travel frequently or have a second home in another state, it's important to make sure you have coverage in those areas.
How much do you need to spend in medical bills before you are able to receive benefits? This is your deductible, and it's important to understand how much you will need to pay out-of-pocket before your insurance kicks in.
What is your out-of-pocket exposure if something catastrophic were to happen? Your out-of-pocket maximum is the most you will have to pay in a given year, so it's important to understand what that amount is.
What is not covered by your plan? It's important to understand what services and treatments are not covered by your plan, so you can plan accordingly and avoid surprises.
Are your medications going to be covered? Make sure to check if your medications are covered by the plan you are considering, as some plans may not cover certain drugs.
