Tannenbaum Libraries is a project run by Walnut Street Bookkeeping that donates bookshelves full of children's books to shelters (homeless, domestic violence, family, and emergency) throughout the United States. The best part? They are sent and zero cost to the shelters! No catch, no gimmick, just books!

I had a lovely conversation with someone who is opening her business shortly and she asked my advice.

Open a separate business account.
If you have a business and do not have a separate bank account you are making more work for yourself (and your bookkeeper, and your accountant , and the person who may audit you...). Keep personal and business separate, have two different bank accounts and do not mix and match.

Track your expenses from day one. The moment you decided you are opening a business, all the leading up to opening expenses (training, inventory, supplies, etc.)? Track. them. all. Organize your receipts. Track everything. (This is easier to do if you have a separate business bank account, see point one).

Keep up with your books or find someone who can. Knowing your numbers are vital to a healthy business. If you are behind in your bookkeeping, you don't truly have an accurate picture. The money in your bank account is not your profit. Learn how to do bookkeeping or, even better, hire it out and focus on the big picture- growing your business!
