IS THERE A WATERPROOF HANDHELD RADIO ON THE MARKET ?
In the last two weeks, I've learned A) To Fly Fish and B) How to Catch the Really Big Fish in NYC's Ashokan Reservoir (last items on my bucket list). I've also been talking to a lot of fisherman I've met and have got many fisherman interested in ham radio (mostly for safety reasons)... after all ... wading the rocky, boulder strewn Esopus Creek where the current can easily overpower you and break your leg or being out in an aluminum boat with aluminum oars during a severe electrical storm when you're a two hour row from your boat's mooring spot, can be quite scary.
In an emergency, cellphones have limited reception up here (but on the other hand, our ham radio club, OMARC has a great repeater). Back in my seakayaking days (seakayaker.com), some members had very expensive, marine handhelds. I came into ham radio because of the non cellphone reception up here ... not only on the roads, but our power goes down at least twice a month and you can never tell when Spectrum Wifi is on the fritz. Any of you, know of a good handheld radio that's waterproof on the market (does it exist). I know from my seakayaking days, we used to have these vinyl, waterproof, walkie talkie cases that costs more than most radios (like $300 ... 30 years ago).
Just wondering. Told my new fishing buddies I'd check. Meanwhile, I posted a video below to see what fishing is like (unfortunately, at the end of the season up here).
