Cigna said Thursday it will exit the ACA individual health insurance business, leaving health plan members in 11 states looking for new coverage next year.

Divide and Conquer: A client called saying their ACA Marketplace plan had almost doubled in price. Ouch. Husband was unhealthy. Wife happy healthy. I put both on their own plans and reduced their monthly cost significantly. Sometimes you have to know the rules to use them to your advantage.

FOUR big Affordable Care Act (ACA) changes in 2026 include:
1 - A median 18% premium increase due to the expiration of enhanced premium tax credits
2 - A shift away from automatic re-enrollment, requiring everyone to verify their income and eligibility annually.
3 - Higher out-of-pocket maximums
4 - Tighter monitoring on 'qualifying life changing event' for individuals trying to enroll outside of normal open enrollment.

Feeling happy. I received a phone call last week. This person's health insurance was about to go up to $2000+ per month; for her + 4 kids. Yikes! Being an independent agent, I got creative. I put her on her own plan and her kids on their own plans. (Kids don't need to be on a parent's plan who has a past health issue) Result; new monthly cost $1,100. Yes, feeling happy that I helped a family in a big way.
