Things I Would Never Do.. As an IMO-Agency!

#4: The Carrier Buffet List

Having a variety of carriers can be helpful if you have different clients, requiring different personal objectives - however it should not be a driving factor for an IMO showing the value to their agents!

Remember - the purpose of an IMO is to provide the structure and support to help you generate business, not just appoint you to a variety of companies! If an IMO is simply throwing out different companies to set you up with, without showing you why they have them or how to use them its a big red flag!

Don't get lost in the sauce of touting every carrier under the sun. The key is to having the carriers you know will work to service your client, and learning from your IMO/upline on how and when to use them! If they aren't providing this basic guidance, you might want to rethink on how you evaluate their place in your path to success!

Things I Would Never Do.. As an IMO-Agency!

#2: Catfish "We're Hiring" // Saying that You Are Looking for X # of Agents

First and foremost, you aren't hiring if you aren't paying a salary. As with the vast majority of brokerages, agents work on COMMISSION. Don't try an fool would be job seekers into something you are not offering!

When it comes to citing needing a specific number of agents - its just insincere! In reality - you aren't looking for a fixed number, you would take as many agents that show interest! Honesty and transparency go a long way!

If you see posts that try to mask their recruitment intentions, be wary.. often times it infers that the organization at large might have an honesty issues within their culture!

Things I Would Never Do.. As an IMO-Agency!

#1: Using "Highest Comp" as a Value Proposition

Everyone knows that an IMO contract is a standardized contract when it comes to individual carrier processing. There is no magic bullet! And if an agency is trying to court you in by saying "Highest Comp in the Industry" - likely they don't offer much value to their agents.

The goal for an IMO-Agency is to position themselves in a way where the agents are set up with a plan to SUCCEED. Remember 155% of $0 is still ZERO!

Take your time to learn about your IMO's who are courting or recruiting you - make sure they offer more than just a contract! Be wary of these types of overtures! Most often a company will say this or even lead with this is because that is the only value proposition they offer!

& if you are already contracted - check in with your IMO-Agency to make sure they are providing you with what you need to succeed. And if they aren't, well, you know where to look. ;)

We joke, we joke. But in all seriousness, contracting can be one of the biggest points of contention in the industry.

The 🔑 is having a set standard of expectations. Realize that there are many hands in the process, and the most important thing YOU can do to make it quick and easy as possible is to follow the guidance given by your agency, and complete your links and docs as expeditiously as possible! 🔒

What many agency’s won’t tell you:: CHECK IN ON THEM POST COMPLETION.

Would you rather find an error in your compensation before or after you are expecting to be paid?! 🤔💭

#5: Never Over-Promise and Under-Deliver!

Its all about the trust you build with your clients! If you are constantly saying one thing, and then doing another, do you think your client will trust you with something as important as their legacy?!

Take the time to make sure you set appropriate expectations for your client (and yourself!) when it comes to being able to perform the actions and services promised to your clients.

This is a skill that can be curated and enhanced! All it takes is having the right set of resources, the knowledge on how to use them and the right guidance on understanding how to perform!

#4: Never Pander to Your Client!

In the context of a dialogue with your client - pandering would be to simply speak to the things you THINK they want to hear! This is not how you build trust and you don't button up a client!

Be prepared with what you are going to say, and don't waste both of your time!!

Avoid these pitfalls and many like it by getting the straight forward pointers you need to help expand your skill and grow your career!!

If you want to show up to a client engagement unprepared, there is no better way to announce it to your client like repeating what they said back to them,

#2: Stop Rushing to the Quote!

Are you a walking-talking pamphlet? Did you forget that your client is a real person? Make sure you take the time to get to know your client by asking deepening questions and getting to know their situation!

So many clients are lost when the agent is thinking more about the 'sale' than about what is best for the client.. And sadly, that comes from poor guidance and training. But its correctable!
