My Michael Jordan story was the best of them all, as far as people I’ve met. I’m 13 and my mentor has me reading: “How to be like Mike” book. I’m in the players tunnel (currently working for the Warriors, while reading his book) I run into Michael, I ask for an autograph, he said “sure kid, but I don’t have a pen/sharpe, but do you.” I’m literally more than half way through his book. I didn’t have anything to sign with. His agent: “we gotta go”. Walking away with my head down knowing that my mentor would talk about not being prepared for opportunity. Jordan calls me back, because he also just seen me perform. He gets a sharpie and signs a torn piece of paper from the game schedule for the night, while telling me to do my best. I go back into the room to show my mentor his idol’s signature while telling him the story. My mentors reaction was why didn’t you have a sharpie on you? If you know ESPN is here and you’re reading about Jordan wouldn’t it make since to be prepared? To this day, I don’t know where the autograph is, but those were the moments kids dream of.
