Beneficial State Bank

Beneficial State Bank Beneficial State Bank is striving toward an ideal of "Benefit to All, Harm to None." FDIC-insured. In December 2010, it acquired ShoreBank Pacific.

Beneficial State Bank is a social enterprise bank founded in 2007 with a triple-bottom-line focus on social justice, environmental resilience, and economic sustainability. Beneficial State is a state-chartered, federally regulated bank whose economic interest is owned by a non-profit foundation of the same name. Beneficial State is mandated to produce meaningful social justice and environmental be

nefits in an economically sustainable manner. The merger greatly expanded the Bank’s reach on the West Coast and enhanced its capacity to serve its mission. ShoreBank Pacific, a pioneer of environmentally sustainable banking, served both Washington and Oregon. The joint forces produced an enlarged footprint covering a bio-regional territory some call the Salmon Nation and united the synergies of social justice and ecological banking. A few years later in October 2013, Beneficial State Bancorp completed a stock purchase transaction of 90% of Albina Community Bank, bringing a Portland-based community bank that has been investing in individuals, families, businesses, and local neighborhoods for over 20 years, into their family. In June of 2016, Beneficial State Bank merged with Pan American Bank. The Beneficial State branch network serves Northern and Southern California, the Portland Metro Area in Oregon, and Seattle, Washington. Beneficial State, a community development financial institution, has been a certified B Corporation since 2013 and has been honored as “Best for the World,” a designation reserved for the top 10% of all B Corps based on environmental, community, and worker impact. Overall, Beneficial State is one of the top 10 B Corps worldwide on the B Corp impact assessment. Follow us on Twitter: https://twitter.com/BeneficialState

In 2025, your deposits helped expand access to fair auto lending:

➡️ $191.5 million in auto loans to low-income borrowers or in low-income communities

➡️ An estimated average refinance rate reduction of 3.45%

➡️ An estimated average monthly savings of $162 per borrower

This might be the cutest bank we’ve ever seen. 🧡

We had the pleasure of attending the recent ribbon-cutting ceremony for our client, Juniper Corner, a nonprofit children’s play space in San Leandro, CA.

The thoughtfully designed 5,000+ square-foot play space includes a mini town, foam pit, crafting areas, a low-sensory room, and yes, even a miniature Beneficial State Bank.

Spaces like this are exactly what make communities stronger. Congratulations to Juniper Corner! 🎉

Affordable housing is what makes stability possible for families and communities. What people often forget is how much of a role banking plays in whether affordable homes are built and preserved.

A recent example: Hacienda CDC's El Nido development in Lake Oswego, Oregon. When the affordable housing project faced a midstream financing gap, Beneficial State Bank, alongside Banner Bank, provided the financing needed to keep it moving.

Your deposits don’t just sit in an account—banks use them to fund loans. And when a bank is mission-aligned, those loans can support things communities need, like affordable homes.

Our newest blog post draws from our 2025 Impact Report to show how your deposits help fuel lending that finances affordable housing 🏠: https://www.beneficialstatebank.com/better-banking-blog/ethical-banking/how-we-supported-affordable-housing-in-2025

Affordable housing depends on financing. Here's how your deposits helped build and preserve affordable housing in 2025.

Our Board Member Clothilde Hewlett recently spoke to our Women in Banking ERG to share lessons from her career, including pioneering roles in law enforcement and serving as Commissioner of California's Department of Financial Protection and Innovation.

Cloey reflects on how she built credibility in male-dominated industries and why aspiring leaders should cultivate a personal "board of directors" that can help open doors and solve problems.

Thank you, Cloey, for sharing your wisdom and encouraging the next generation of leaders at Beneficial State Bank✨

Projects like this are why we do what we do. The Dolores Apartments in Hillsboro, Oregon, will provide high-quality, affordable housing for 67 families. We're proud to be a funding partner.

Well beyond a roof overhead, residents have access to 1-4 bedroom homes designed for multigenerational living, a prime location, sustainability features, bilingual resident services, and ample outdoor space. It's a space built for families to thrive.

Big congratulations to our friends at Hacienda CDC and the many partners who made this project possible.👏

And thank you to our depositors. Your money helps fund projects like Dolores, creating more affordable housing for our communities. When we say that your deposits support people and the planet, this is what we mean. 🌎💚
