I highly recommend you hop over to L!nked!n, where I shared a great post from strategist Alex M. H. Smith. (He's not on FB.)

It's a great short read on the danger of owners making "fake decisions". Decisions that look safe but aren't even decisions. A 'safety net' when you're not even leaving the ground.

A great read.

Times are tough now. And successful leaders make tough decisions even when some are imperfect. Progress isn't perfect. But getting stuck in a non-decision can be the greatest mistake of all.

Watch me! I'm just getting started. That's what the CEO said.

I have been helping one of my fCFO clients.

There weren't any nice reports or charts to provide them in the beginning. Far from it.

They had several on staff in their in-house accounting department, but the books were only useful once a year for their tax preparer.

The owner wanted more.

"I want to know how each branch has been performing. I can't fix something if I don't know where it's broken. The reports are useless, and I need to better information," they said.

We set about to restructure their Chart of Accounts. This is the skeleton of your financial reports. When it's a default version you've got a sloppy Frankenstein report. When it's strategically designed, you've got Michelangelo's The David.

Then we progressed to pruning and shaping the class-tracking. Down from 30 classes to 4. Yep!

With the internal structure ready, we were able to deliver an action-ready P&L. We included a single graph and KPI scorecard, and walkthrough video. Less is more when it's insightful.

In less than 2 minutes, the CEO could determine that their Cost of Goods wasn't paralleling Revenue. Revenue was dipping, overhead was rising slowly, while labor costs and COGS were skyrocketing.

That's why we named our firm INSIGHTFUL FINANCIALS LLC. When we deliver insightful financial data, in a clear, concise manner, the best CEOs instinctually know which levers and dials to move.

They've got an amazing CEO. It's always nice to have a front row seat to what they do next.

Running a business is hard, but with data you can assimilate and trust, great things are coming at that company!

Tuesday felt like the 2nd half of a very, VERY long Monday. Just sayin'.😜

PSA: Check in on your accountant. Caffeine, chocolate, tea, wine, and spa packages could save an accountant you care for during this difficult end of year season. 🤪😉😆

Monday mornings after days away from your business makes it clear that ONE person can only juggle so much.

It might be you or your office manager doing a little bit of everything.

While it's helpful to wear many hats, every business reaches a MILESTONE in its journey where specialization is advantageous. 📍

If payroll, scheduling, marketing, paying bills, sales, placing orders, and customer service are overwhelming your task list, outsourcing your finance department might be your next move. ♟️

A better night's sleep. It's not your mattress. It's your finances.

I'm in the business of selling a good night's sleep😴. I don't have a side hustle selling pillows, but my clients tell me over and over again: "Now I can sleep because I know you're watching my finances."

I'm not just watching. I'm actively thinking about the drivers in their business, and planning what we can execute on next to increase profit margins.

A good mattress helps your back. We calm your mind! ✨️

Are we going to be okay? I was asked this question while discussing the financials with a client this week.

Business owners want clarity. They want numbers they can trust. They want an unbiased, professional assessment of where their business stands.

I was able to say, "Yes." Not because it would make them feel better but because I had just crunched the numbers. I knew every line of their balance sheet and P&L by heart.
I knew how the past 11 months were trending and how this year compares to prior years. I know their debt to asset ratio. I understand their cash flow.

I handed the owner the numbers. They're numbers they can trust.

It was an executive style short summary.

Only a few rows.

To the point; exactly what they wanted to know. Not pages and pages of mind-numbing reports.

They're doing a phenomenal job with sales, even in a tough economy. What they're doing is working. I could prove it in black and white. That's what they needed to know. I love being able to give that assurance to an owner.

Being a strategic accountant and fractional CFO is a lot like being a doctor diagnosing a patient. It's a heavy responsibility to diagnose the health of a business and interpret symptoms. I don't take that lightly. Accuracy is important to me each and every day. It's not the easy route, but it's what every entrepreneur deserves: Insightful Financials.

I LOVE giving that to my clients! Sometimes I'm too much of a perfectionist😆. But my clients can make great business decisions with the right information at the right time!

Tech fail. I helped a client increase their revenue by thousands of dollars over the past several weeks.

They use mobile deposit banking. Their account was timing out after depositing a certain number of checks or they were interrupted and didn't finalize ⏸️ at the last screen of the mobile deposit process. So the money didn't go in their account, but in their mind it was a task marked "done". Their A/R invoice had been marked paid.

Our banking review caught these checks that hadn't been deposited. We were able to identify the missing amounts and which checks they were.

The owner was able to deposit them successfully and revenue hit the bank and the P&L.

Mobile technology is a time saver, but having someone watching your bank account for missing funds is a smart safety net.

Good bookkeepers often pay for themselves by saving you money or finding money you wouldn't know was lost. 💰

Want to pay less in taxes? Here’s what NOT to do.

Myth: “If I spend money to get a tax deduction, I’ll save money.”
Truth: You’ll always lose more money than you save.

Spending money on something you weren't going to buy “to save on taxes” is like paying $1000 for a coupon that only saves you $240.🎟️

Sure, you get the discount, but you’re still out $760.😔

A deduction reduces the tax on a dollar you were already going to spend. It doesn’t make unnecessary spending smart.

When business owners buy extra equipment, supplies, or “end-of-year” goodies they don’t actually need, they’re trading real cash for a tiny tax break.

Don't spend cash on things that aren't necessities:
🚫It doesn't have the 1:1 tax savings you think it does.
🚫It reduces cash in the bank.
🚫It lowers your profit margin.
🚫It makes your P&L look bad to lenders or investors.
