In 1967, Doxa took a bold step with the release of its SUB 300—designed not just for professionals, but for the everyday adventurer. While most dive watches of the time featured traditional black dials and were aimed at military or scientific use, Doxa stood out with its unmistakable orange dial and broader appeal. Visionaries like Jacques Cousteau recognized its potential, helping bring innovative tools and exploration to a wider audience.

Exploration—whether beneath the surface or within your financial future—requires preparation, insight, and a clear plan. Venturing into the unknown without direction can carry unnecessary risk.

If you’re looking to build a strategy and gain a clearer sense of direction, consider reaching out to First Command Financial Services. Together, we can discuss ways to help you chart a course toward your financial goals with confidence.

Welcome to Your Next Chapter!

Missed us this past Tuesday? No worries—we’ll be right back out in the hall every Tuesday!

The First Command team is here to talk through the exciting opportunities ahead and help you prepare for what’s next. We believe the best transitions start with a simple conversation.

Take me, for example. What started as a quick chat about our Skill Bridge program turned into an engaging deep dive on engineering horror stories. We quickly realized there was more in common than expected:

The Uniform: Faded Bulwaks and hard loved boots

The Shift: Preparing to begin the next journey into the unknown

The Mindset: A mutual focus on working smarter—not harder—to get the most out of life

Whether you’re curious about Skill Bridge, planning your transition, or just want to talk with someone who understands the military lifestyle, stop by and say hello.

We’re here to help make your transition to civilian life smooth, successful, and fully supported.

Have you ever recognized a full circle moment that stops you in your tracks? In 2017 I was doing demolition work in downtown Norfolk. The building was being gutted down to bare bricks. Then in 2025 I unknowingly stumbled into the same spot, and saw the sign mounted to the wall. No hard hat this time, just a suit.

Growth isn’t always about moving on — sometimes it’s returning.
Standing in a place tied to an earlier version of yourself and realizing how much has changed. Same setting, new perspective. The progress was happening even when you didn’t notice it.

As we march into 2026 with a laundry list of resolutions, take some time to reflect on how far you have come. Then please share a little bit about your journey with personal development.

In 1956, IBM released the RAMAC 350—the world’s first commercial hard drive. It stored a then-astonishing 3.75 MB of data, weighed over a ton, and cost the equivalent of $9,000 per month to lease.

Today, a device the size of a smartphone—small enough to fit in your pocket—holds 5 terabytes of storage for about $150. To match that capacity in 1956, you’d have needed 1.3 million RAMAC 350 units, costing the inflation-adjusted equivalent of over $500 billion.

Technology doesn’t just change—it transforms. Innovations that once seemed cutting-edge become obsolete faster than ever.

Is your financial plan keeping up with the pace of change?

Do you ever stop and reflect on how far you’ve come?

This was me back in 2017 aboard the USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78). Fast forward 48 months, and I found myself at Officer Candidate School in Newport, Rhode Island. Back in 2017, I had no intention of commissioning—but taking that leap opened doors to new opportunities and incredible people.

It’s funny what we don’t think about until we look back. One of those things? Your retirement plan.

Dollars to donuts, it’s probably not top of mind—but maybe it should be. If it’s been a while since you’ve taken a good look at your financial future, give me a call at
757-829-7741. Let’s make sure what you’ve built keeps growing.
