Want to buy a home? 🏡 Start saving smarter, not just harder.
Here are 5 things you can start doing TODAY to build your home fund faster:
1️⃣ Create a separate HOME fund 💰
Keep the money you’re saving for your future home separate from your everyday checking or general savings. When everything sits in one account, it’s way too easy to “borrow” from it. Give this money one specific job: your future home.
2️⃣ Set a WEEKLY savings goal 📆
Instead of looking at one intimidating number like “I need to save $10,000,” break it down. Even $100 a week becomes $5,200 over a year. Choose a realistic weekly number and make consistency the goal.
3️⃣ Put your “extra” money toward the house 🏡
Tax refund? Work bonus? Overtime? Birthday money? Side-hustle income? Decide BEFORE it hits your account what percentage will go toward your home. Those occasional larger deposits can move your timeline much faster than you think.
4️⃣ Audit your last 90 days of spending 🔍
Forget obsessing over one cup of coffee. Pull up your actual transactions and look for the BIG leaks. Food delivery, subscriptions, shopping, memberships you forgot about, or one category that keeps getting out of control. Find 2–3 expenses you can reduce and redirect that exact amount into your home fund.
5️⃣ Find out how much you ACTUALLY need 👀
This might be the most important one. Don’t automatically assume you need a 20% down payment before you can buy. Depending on your financial situation, eligibility and loan program, there may be lower down-payment options or even down-payment assistance available.
You can save for years toward an imaginary number, or you can find out what YOUR number actually looks like and build a plan around it.
Save this post for your future home 🏡 and send it to the person you’re planning to buy with. 🤍
