We are created to create and contribute.
It's in our bones. It's the way God made us. And when we are not using our gifts, when we're floundering and wasting our days away, we cannot escape the gnawing sense that we were made for more. Because it's true. And deep down, we know it.
I would go further to add that when we are not contributing in a way that feels challenging and even sacrificial, it can feel like there's a void in us. Our bodies are screaming out to be useful, to work hard, to put ourselves OUT THERE, to dare make our corner of the world a better place.
But then there's that sneaky part of our brains that wants us to be safe, that wants its pleasure, that doesn't want to feel the discomfort of hard things.
Your life doesn't inspire you because comfort and pleasure isn't inspiring.
The thing we often do when we don't have a goal or challenge in front of us (overeating, overspending, overfacebooking, overwhatevering) probably feels good in the short term, but it doesn't sustain you when life gets rough.
Pleasure is fleeting. It doesn't get you out of bed in the morning with a song in vour heart. It doesn't burn like fire in your bones. It feels good for a while, but then it falls flat because it doesn't require the BEST, most courageous version of you to show up. THE TRUE YOU.
What would happen if you started taking steps to create something with your life more true, more beautiful, and more in line with how God made you?
You would feel SCARED, yes. But also, incredibly ALIVE.
That is actually your true identity---that important thing burning in your heart is what you're made for.
