I AM SO PROUD OF ME!!!

This is not a boast nor a brag; this an acknowledgement of one's ability to keep pushing despite odds being stacked against them.

Everything in my life is not perfect. Frankly, there are a number of things that are absolutely out of whack right now, but I am so freakin' proud of myself.

If you would've told the little girl who was playing cards with her father in the visitation room of a federal prison that she'd be teaching college students (in a coveted entrepreneurship program) from HER OWN BOOK, she'd probably think you were crazy.

Yet, here I am.

This is why putting yourself in rooms where you are heard and appreciated pays in dividends.

This is why building real relationships that go beyond the transactional, surface-based business rhetoric are important.

This is why having self-confidence and fighting through self-doubt are necessary to keep going when you have a season of disappointments.

While I'm celebrating myself in this moment, know that this is not the pinnacle. The work, the focus, and the relationship-building are all still in motion.

I am ECSTATIC to share that I'll be taking my talents to the state of Washington (a first visit for me) next week and working with entrepreneurs at Eastern Washington University.

This event is a full circle moment for me in more ways than one.

For starters, I love visiting college campuses because they have an energy that isn't easy to find elsewhere.

Also, a previous relationship almost led me here many years ago.

My partner at the time was slated to move to a nearby city for work; however, after speaking with a colleague, it became clear that the area is hostile towards Black Americans.

Thankfully, he pushed back on the decision to move there, and it landed us in a city and state that has become my second home.

It's wild to make my debut in this area considering the circumstances that kept me away from it to begin with, but I'm genuinely excited and cannot wait to make a difference in the lives of those I'll be meeting next week!

This week I was reminded of the saying "It's not how you start–– it's how you finish."

The start of my week was ROUGH.

I was reminded of critical mistakes I've made in the past and how they still affect me today. Those thoughts sent me into a 24-hour spiral of emotions ranging from devastation, disappointment, and rage.

But in usual fashion, I reminded myself that simply showing up gives me another chance to make things right. And that's exactly what I did.

I experienced minor wins on Tuesday and Wednesday, but by Thursday, I had the experience of a lifetime.

It's the day when three amazing people flew all the way from Europe and drove 14 hours to visit me in my office.

The occasion? To participate in a documentary directed by a filmmaker from Norway 🇳🇴 named Maria Lloyd.

Yes, you read that correctly. I was filmed in a documentary created by a talented woman named Maria Lloyd (pictured to my left in the photo).

I'll share more details about the nature of documentary in the near future, but the time I spent with them was magical. We laughed ourselves to tears and ate some of Mississippi's finest food until our bellies were full.

By Friday I wrapped up discussions for a huge speaking opportunity at a university in the state of Washington (I'll share more details about that very soon) and found a loving home for the two adorable kittens that mysteriously appeared at the house.

Life is not perfect by any means, but there are these special moments that remind you of how fortunate you are––despite all of the imperfections.

No matter what, do not give up on yourself. In the same way that there are rainbows after a thunderstorm, there are special moments after despair.

Earlier today I was having a conversation with my girl Artrice Rhodes about why I choose NOT to "match energy" when someone is being rude to me.

More times than not, I'm a nice person.

And what's interesting about being nice is that a lot of people are NOT nice. So when I have an encounter with a stranger, one of the main things they often tell me is that I'm nice.

This has led me to receive free meals, free services, gift certificates, loyalty points, etc.

And in reverse, it has also led me to getting scammed by a seemingly "nice guy" in Paris, France...

The bottom line is this: It LITERALLY pays to be nice.

Hey Friends, times are tough and that means there are people investing more time in learning how to scam you instead of learning how to earn an honest living.

As a result, I have recorded a video helping you identify JOB SCAMMERS. These are bogus companies posting job opportunities on platforms like LinkedIn and Indeed and using your information from your resume to scam you.

Some people have been asked to purchase equipment for a bogus job and others have been asked to provide their banking details to receive a direct deposit after accepting a bogus job offer (of course their bank account was completely wiped out).
