A fund co-founded by Mark Cuban is making its first investment with a minority stake in MLB’s Athletics ahead of the franchise’s planned move to Las Vegas.

Harbinger Sports Partners raised $450 million in initial commitments and plans to invest up to $150 million in individual MLB, NBA and NFL franchises. The group was founded by Rashaun Williams, a limited partner with the Atlanta Falcons, and Steve Cannon, vice chairman of AMB Sports and Entertainment, which oversees the Falcons and Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Terms of the Athletics deal were not disclosed.

The team is currently playing in Sacramento while its new $2 billion ballpark is built on the Las Vegas Strip, with an opening planned for 2028. Harbinger believes MLB teams remain undervalued and sees upcoming media rights and labor negotiations as potential catalysts for higher franchise valuations.
