Today I thought one of my worst nightmares was going to be realized. As I was bringing Cooper in the elevator to leave his water therapy appointment, I noticed that this usually slender waist was extremely bloated and distended. My first thought was that it could potentially be bloat. I decided to take him back inside and see the vet. Bloat can turn fatal right away and it occurred to me today how many people have no idea what it is. Luckily I picked A drowsy Coops up later this afternoon and he is expected to be just fine. X-ray showed that he had quite a lot of air and some fluid in the stomach so he needed to be sedated while they relieved the pressure with a tube down his throat. He is all safe and has been napping for hours! I'm glad to have him snoring next to me and that I was able to get him to a vet right away. Please take a moment to read about bloat.
