It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of our Mid-Atlantic Chairman, Thomas Rutherfoord Brown.

Tom was a visionary leader, a passionate advocate for our business, our clients, and our colleagues, and a deeply respected member of our community. Tom began his career in insurance in 1979 following in his family legacy by joining the Thomas Rutherfoord, Inc., founded by his grandfather in 1916, and devoted his entire career to its growth and success. He became President in 1998, CEO in 2004, and later served as Chairman of MMA’s Mid-Atlantic region upon its acquisition in 2010, helping guide our continued expansion and acquisition efforts across the region and beyond.

Tom will be remembered not only for his leadership but also for the lasting relationships he built and the impact he had on so many people. He is survived by his wife, Margy, his children Thomas Jr., Tucker, and Margaret, their spouses, and six grandchildren, as well as his brother, E. Trigg Brown, his sister, Aurelia Lewis, and their families.
