Trevor Linden says entrepreneurs must be selective about opportunities. After 20 years in hockey, Vancouver became his home, and his reputation matters.

When he found a gym business he believed in, he partnered with Carl to create a welcoming space that supports physical and mental health. For them, entrepreneurship is about doing what you love and helping others.

A bit of history: Chuck Lawson (Carl's stepdad) sold his stake in Gold’s Gym to launch Just Ladies Fitness after discovering the women-only gym model.

When rising costs squeezed profits, Trevor Linden and Carl Ulmer came in rebranded a location as She’s Fit and cut memberships to $14.99.

They lost just 14 of 5,000 members and added 2,500 new ones.

Richey Hansen says early-stage investing is like coaching top athletes. He looks for the same personality traits in business founders. The goal is to find people he believes in and help them grow.

He does not micromanage or tell them what to do. Instead, he uses his experience to support them, just like he does with athletes who need less feedback as they improve.

Sports pay is not simple, says Richey Hansen. In the Chicago Marathon, an athlete gets an appearance fee plus bonus money for running fast. Richey earns a percentage of that total.

Most of that money goes back into the training group. It pays for daily training and medical costs like MRIs for injured athletes. For Richey, it is all about supporting the athletes.

John Dwyer’s team helped a bank in Australia generate an extra $15 billion in home loans. Australia has about the same population as California but is as large as the entire U.S., making $15 billion a massive success.

Instead of offering a low “honeymoon” interest rate, the bank gave customers a 1% discount plus a free vacation through a travel company. They promoted the offer on TV and social media with comedian Jerry Seinfeld. The campaign worked because people loved Seinfeld and the free trip.

John Dwyer says the trick is to use popular things people already love, like Ninja Turtles or Disney movies.

Any business can do this—even a gym.

Just latch onto big trends and use what others have already made famous.

Gyms often pay $50 to $150 for each new customer lead.

John Dwyer runs a low-cost Facebook contest offering a free gym membership as the prize.

People who enter already want to get fit. Each lead costs just $1 to $5, and even non-winners can be offered a deal later.

Alexander Tsiaras asks if patients can have a revenue model in healthcare. But first, there is a bigger problem: getting patients onto the system. The hardest part is getting their medical records in.

His team built a system that lets patients bring in records from 85,000 medical places. Wearable data can be added right away. The system turns the data into an AI that tells the patient's health story. And it is all free.

The data quality can then be used for good, not exploited like most AI systems. Tsiaras wants patients to benefit from their own data and help others too. Data is powerful when used well. The problem is when it is misused, which happens too often.

Two years ago, Alexander Tsiaras' wife got cancer. She started at one medical office and ended up at another. In just two months, she had four different medical records. Each one held only a piece of her story.

The problem was not bad doctors. The problem was that all her information was scattered. Big medical record systems are often more about billing than helping patients. She had to put all the pieces together by herself.

Whether you are an athlete or a cancer patient, Tsiaras says, you face the same problem. Fragmentation. You are left to gather your own scattered information. That is the reality for many patients.
