As CARVART continued to evolve, looking beyond the U.S. became an important part of expanding what was possible. For Edward, many of those relationships began nearly two decades ago on the floors of European trade shows, where new approaches to hardware, architectural systems, manufacturing, and design offered a glimpse into where the industry was heading.

Those trips became a source of both inspiration and opportunity. New ideas discovered abroad influenced CARVART’s own glass designs, colors, finishes, and systems, while relationships with manufacturers developed into long term partnerships. Over time, the company learned that the right product was only the beginning. The people behind it, their commitment to quality, and their willingness to collaborate were equally important.

That collaboration became increasingly significant as European products were introduced to the U.S. market. Different glass thicknesses, building standards, accessibility requirements, and design expectations meant systems could rarely be brought over unchanged. CARVART worked directly with its partners to adapt and redesign them for ASTM standards, ADA requirements, UL listings, and the needs of American architecture.

CARVART also brought a strong design direction to these partnerships, pushing for cleaner detailing, concealed hardware, new glass configurations, and more refined architectural solutions. European partners brought manufacturing expertise and technical capability, while CARVART brought design vision, knowledge of the U.S. market, and an understanding of what architects and designers were looking for. Advances in lamination opened entirely new possibilities. Colors, textures, interlayers, fabrics, metallic meshes, and specialty materials could now be combined into unique compositions that weren’t possible before. During this period, design assist became a defining part of the CARVART process. Early coordination with architects and design teams allowed concepts to evolve through engineering, prototyping, mockups, and continuous refinement before reaching production.

At the same time, the work itself was becoming more complex. Projects now required the integration of glass, metal systems, architectural hardware, specialty finishes, and custom detailing that demanded tighter coordination between trades and a higher level of technical ex*****on.

Rather than forcing projects into standard solutions, systems were adapted around the specific needs of each environment. Profiles, hardware, finishes, attachment methods, and assemblies were evaluated not only for constructability, but for how they supported the overall architectural vision.
