Kingston is facing massive gentrification. The voices of the people who live there need to be heard. If a community where 30% of the people can’t afford housing opts for projects with a 10% affordable set aside, you have just kicked 20% of the people out.

Yesterday's rally for affordable housing in Kingston. Here's what Anne Ames, organizer of the Wednesday Walks for Black Lives said about the city's plans for housing, "They have a vision but we're not in it. They have a plan but they're not telling us what it is. They're showing us what it is with the projects they are approving."

Safe, adequate housing is rapidly moving out of the reach of too many people in our communities. What are our plans to make a difference?

Dutchess County has $1.1 mn. available for up to six months back rent payment. It will be available through Hudson River Housing and has income limitations. Funding will be by lottery and applications are due May 17. You can apply online here

Some help for people facing evictions:

Dutchess County residents needing information about resources to help them avert eviction can call 211, or alternatively, 1-800-899-1479; choose to continue in English or Spanish; and press 7 to select the Dutchess Eviction Prevention Line.

Specially trained 211 staff ask tenants a series of questions and then provide them with a customized list of programs the tenant appears eligible for based on the information provided.

Staff will also refer tenants to Legal Services of the Hudson Valley, as appropriate.

Dutchess County has finally created something of a waiting list for their COVID vaccine sites. Still no list or appointment spots for all the vaccine distributors (pharmacies, etc.) though...

Dutchess County Department of Behavioral & Community Health has two Points of Dispensing (POD) Vaccination Centers at the former JCPenney store at the Poughkeepsie Galleria and Dover High School. These sites are BY APPOINTMENT ONLY.
