"Life's greatest gift is the ability to change the lives of others." ~ Unknown. "Hugs For Alex" is a way to show support for a little 10 year old boy who has just become an orphan. In 2008, Alex Pinette lost his loving Mother to terminal health issues. This broke the heart of a 5 year child who didn't understand where his Mommy went. His devoted Father, Jorgen Pinette, stepped up to the dual-role
of Father and Mother for his only child. They had their moments of strife, but more than that, they became Best Friends. Jorgen was so proud to watch his son flourish into the amazing little boy he is today. They went to all of Alex's baseball games together, they played basketball together every day, rode bikes together every day, and just basked in the warmth of each others' presence. You could tell they adored each other. After 5 years of adjusting to not having Mommy around, only Daddy, God called Jorgen home. On Monday, August 5th, 2013, Alex found his Daddy, his Best Friend, his only parent, dead in his bed. Jorgen died in his sleep from renal failure. Can you imagine what was running through this child's head? His heart? Can you hear the questions? Can you feel his fear? This tragedy has darkened the doorway of an entire family. The unexpected death of a child is something no parent should have to face, but both of Jorgen's parents are alive and well, along with his 2 brothers and 2 sisters. These family members have put aside their grieving so that they can tend to this fragile child's loss. Amidst financial hardships of their own, they've each assumed an aspect of responsibility in the care of Alex, who, by the way, just "celebrated" his 11th Birthday on Wednesday, August 21, 2013 - yes, 16 days after he found his Daddy. "Hugs For Alex" comes to you with it's arms open, asking for hugs in the form of donations to help this family make it through the next 7 years. Alex is currently living with his Aunt Jami and her family. She has twin 11 year old boys of her own, and a 13 year old daughter, so he has the perfect social setting in his new home. He still has needs, though. Your gift will be appreciated more than you could ever imagine, be it money, clothes, food, gift certificates, activities, etc. Please find it in your heart to send Alex a much needed hug.
