The biggest argument I hear from people on why they keep their credit cards is for the rewards. People LOVE their credit card points. From cash back to airline miles, manipulative credit card companies have done a great job drilling this concept into our minds. Credit cards are not the way to financial security. In fact, they’ll take you in the opposite direction.

Think about all the extra money you’re spending to “earn” those airline miles. A "buy now, pay later" mentality causes people to spend more than they would if they used their own hard-earned cash. (And that’s even before the interest kicks in.) You know what else you can book flights and hotels with other than credit card points? ACTUAL money in your own checking account.

BIG day for me! For the last decade I have driven (the incomparable) Cora Lola my 1996 Toyota Corolla with 287,000 miles. She was the true hero of my debt free journey and never cost me more than an oil change or tire replacement. I was able to pay off $115k in 4 years! So many people told me I “deserved” or “needed” a new car during that time, but I couldn’t have done what I did with a car payment on my back. Since becoming debt free, I have been casually saving for a replacement car. Well, today was that day! It felt SOOO good to walk into the dealership and hand over a check for the FULL PURCHASE PRICE on my dream car! I don’t owe the bank a dime, and it didn’t cost me any peace of mind either. I couldn’t help but get a little emotional on the drive home because, for as much as I paid off, I never had anything to physically show for it until today! So everyone please welcome BeBe Rexha to my family! (2018 RAV4 with 40k miles!) 🖤🖤🖤 My official Dave car!
PS don’t worry, Cora Lola will be with my mom living a life of well deserved retirement on the farm ❤️
