Longwoods Alpaca Farm, LLC Though we no longer raise alpacas, I have plenty of yarn available for knitting, crocheting, and weaving. This is what pays the bills!

I enjoy hand-dying it, finding inspiration in the colors that surround us in our new location on Maine's Midcoast. For 12 years, we had a small farm, and kept a herd of about 20 alpacas. As a certified fiber sorter, Pam understands the value of breeding for uniformity of micron as well as strong conformation, and is happy to answer "how do I. . . .?" questions. Breeding decisions, when made to improve the fiber produced by one's herd, ensures more of it may go into commercial production for later resale at farmers markets and in farm stores.

The Pemaquid Craft Co-op has ended another season, and we thank all who visited us in 2026.

Your purchase from us this year benefited the nearly 50 small Maine businesses that are members of our co-operative shop. Our co-op and our members also pay taxes in our towns and state, and our shop supports local nonprofits.

See you in May when we reopen for our 2027 season!

In addition to the many hand-dyed yarns inspired by the colors around me, I have lots of yarns produced by the national fiber co-op to which our farm contributed fiber. These yarns are certified sorted, which means they resist pilling, shedding, and prickling.

This article is about last year’s inaugural fiber fair. I’ll be demonstrating round rug weaving on a peg loom at this year’s fair on Saturday 9/12. Others will be weaving, knitting, and even spinning on the old-fashioned large wheels. Sheep will be there for petting, too.

Open 10-4 at the historical society on Rt 130 in Bristol.

The inaugural Fiber Mill Fair was held at the site of the historic Pemaquid Mill in Bristol on Saturday, Sept. 13. The fair offered visitors an opportunity to learn about the area’s milling history and observe demonstrations of fiber arts.

Two more hats off the needles and for sale at the Pemaquid Craft Co-op. The Blue Wave hat has two bands of morse code that say, “As Maine goes so goes the nation.” The red “Pemaquid” hat is the 5th in the series: same style; different color.
