Are you disconnected from your body?
I lived this way for the first 30 years of my life, always wondering what was “wrong” with me, stuck in the same thought loop patterns and chronically looking outside of myself for the answers.
I reacted poorly to stressful situations, lashing out at others and myself. I forced myself to people please just for a little taste of acceptance. My only body awareness was how I looked in a bathing suit - and it was never good enough.
Eventually I started having physical symptoms manifest like extreme fatigue, brain fog, widespread pain and fainting spells. Despite all testing coming back normal, I knew something was very wrong. Through my own somatic healing journey I found that I had been suppressing a whole lot of emotional baggage and trauma my entire life, and it was coming up to the surface to finally be unpacked.
Thankfully this isn’t the case for everyone, and it doesn’t need to get to this point for you to learn to reconnect to your body. Being “disconnected from the body” simply refers to a reduced awareness of, or attunement to, our physical sensations, emotions, and internal experiences. This can manifest in several different ways, and many of them are listed above.
If you resonate with any of these examples, I want you to know that there is nothing wrong with you! This is very a common response and adaptive way your system learned to deal with stress, trauma, and/or conditioning.
The good news is that this is reversible! You can repair the connection to your body and experience life the way you were designed to - fully ALIVE, present, and capable of feeling and responding to the full range of emotions in a regulated way.
