If you own a small business, you’ve probably said this at least once. 😅

You’re busy working with customers, answering emails, paying bills, marketing your business…and bookkeeping gets pushed to next week.

Then next week becomes next month.

The problem is, the longer you wait:

📌 The harder it is to remember what transactions were for
📌 Receipts start disappearing
📌 Mistakes become harder to catch

You don’t need to spend hours every week doing your books.

Even 15 minutes once a week to download and categorize transactions can keep things from piling up.

💻 QuickBooks Tip: Don't Automatically Trust the Suggested Category

QuickBooks can be pretty smart.

But it doesn't know your business like you do. 😉

When transactions download through your bank feed, QuickBooks may suggest a category based on past activity or information it recognizes.

Sometimes it's right.

And sometimes… it's very wrong. 😆

Before clicking Add or Post, take a few seconds to check:

✔️ Who was the vendor?

✔️ What was the purchase actually for?

✔️ Is the suggested category correct?

✔️ Is it really a new expense—or should it be matched to something already in QuickBooks?

Those few seconds can prevent a lot of cleanup later.

Automation can make bookkeeping faster. It doesn't replace reviewing your books.

Let QuickBooks do some of the work—but don't let it make all the decisions. 😉

As a small business owner, it’s easy to get caught up in the day-to-day and assume that if there’s money in the bank, everything must be going okay.

But your bookkeeping can tell you so much more.

Take a few minutes this week and look at:

💰 Income — Is your revenue growing, shrinking, or staying about the same?

💸 Expenses — Are there any expenses that have quietly crept up?

📈 Profit — After everything is paid, how much is your business actually making?

🏦 Cash Flow — Do you have enough cash available to comfortably cover what’s coming up?

You don't have to become an accountant to understand your business finances.

You just need to start looking at them regularly.
