Skipped $2,200 Trusses for $600 Rafters

Smart move or false savings? Half the internet says the container is pointless here. The other half wants the plans.

One 40ft high cube, and a 14ft lean-to off its side. One guy, after work and on weekends, in central Michigan. No welder, just basic carpentry tools.

Trusses would have been about $2,200 plus a lift rental. He hand-set common 2x8 rafters at roughly 3/12 pitch instead, for about $600.

The roof ties in over the container's welded top rail. A notched 1x4 bridges the weld, double 2x6s sit on top, and 3/8" galvanized through-bolts every 4ft hold it down, with homemade steel plate washers.

The math:

Lumber so far: ~$2,500

Metal roofing and trim, still to come: ~$1,700–$2,000

About 560 sq ft of covered space for roughly $8 a sq ft once it's done

Its been awhile since I updated the shop build slow progress but im a one man show mostly had a couple of freinds out to help with a but here and there Christian Thomle, Chrissh Sh, Mason Hagedorn, and my cousin Harold Chamberlain IV thanks for the help guys I appreciate it
