Rates Hit a One-Year High.

Mortgage rates moved higher again last week, with the 30-year fixed reaching its highest level in about a year.

Even after a weaker September jobs report, rates didn't immediately give buyers the relief many hoped for. That is a good reminder that mortgage rates are influenced by much more than one economic report or one Fed decision.

So what does this mean if you are thinking about buying?

It doesn't mean you should rush into a home.

It also doesn't mean you should sit on the sidelines waiting for the perfect rate.

The better approach is to get prepared.

Getting pre-approved now gives you a clear picture of your buying power, your estimated payment, and the loan options available to you. Then, if rates improve or the right home comes along, you are ready to make an informed decision instead of starting from scratch.

A good buying strategy is not about predicting exactly where rates will go next. It's about knowing your numbers and being ready when the opportunity makes sense for you.
