One of the biggest Medicare mistakes people make…

is assuming they can go to any doctor they want.

That’s not always the case.

Some Medicare plans use networks, which means:

• You may need to see doctors within a specific group
• Certain specialists may not be covered
• Going outside the network can cost more — or not be covered at all

Other plans give you more flexibility and allow you to see any doctor that accepts Medicare.

The difference comes down to the type of plan you choose.

This is something a lot of people don’t think about until they actually need care — and by then, it can be frustrating.

If you have specific doctors you want to keep, it’s important to check how your plan works before enrolling.

A few minutes of planning here can save a lot of headaches later.

One of the most overlooked parts of Medicare is prescription drug coverage.

A lot of people don’t think about it… especially if they’re not taking medications right now.

But here’s the part that surprises people:

Medicare does not include drug coverage automatically.

That’s handled through Part D plans — and there are deadlines tied to enrolling.

If you skip it when you’re first eligible, you could face:

• Late enrollment penalties
• Higher costs later
• Limited options depending on your situation

Even if you don’t take prescriptions today, it’s still something worth understanding ahead of time.

Because it’s not just about today — it’s about how your coverage works later on.

A little planning here can prevent a lot of frustration down the road.

Most people assume Medicare covers everything.

It doesn’t.

Original Medicare (Parts A & B) helps cover hospital stays and medical services but there are still gaps that can catch people off guard, like:

• Deductibles
• Copays
• Coinsurance
• Prescription drug costs

That’s why many people look into additional coverage like Medicare Supplement or Medicare Advantage plans.

The important part is understanding what you have — and what you might be missing — before you make a decision.

If you’re turning 65 soon or helping someone who is, it’s worth taking a little time to learn how it all works.

If you have questions, feel free to reach out. I’m always happy to help explain things in a simple way.

Hi everyone — I wanted to take a moment to reintroduce myself and share a little about what I do.

My name is Dana Polk, and I’ve been helping people with their insurance and Medicare coverage for many years. As an independent Medicare agent, I work with multiple companies so I can help people compare their options and choose coverage that fits their needs.

Most of the people I work with are turning 65 or already on Medicare, and I help them understand things like:

• Medicare Supplement plans
• Medicare Advantage plans
• Prescription Drug (Part D) plans

I also help people with other types of coverage such as life insurance, hospital indemnity plans, and other supplemental protection options.

Over the years I’ve found that what most people really need is clear information and someone they can trust to explain their choices. Medicare can be confusing, and my goal is simply to answer questions, walk through the options, and help people feel comfortable with their decision.

There’s no pressure and no cost for my help — just guidance and support.

If you or someone you know is turning 65, already on Medicare, or just has questions about coverage, feel free to send me a message. I’m always happy to help point people in the right direction.

Medicare Advantage vs. Medicare Supplement — what’s the real difference? 🤔

This is one of the questions I get the most from people turning 65.

And honestly… a lot of people don’t realize how different these two options really are.

Here’s the simple way I usually explain it.

Medicare Advantage (Part C):

• Usually lower monthly premiums
• Often includes extras like dental, vision, or gym memberships
• Uses doctor networks (HMO or PPO)
• Has a yearly out-of-pocket maximum

For some people, Advantage plans can work well — especially if they’re comfortable using network doctors and want a lower monthly cost.

Medicare Supplement (Medigap):

• Higher monthly premium
• Very little out-of-pocket when you use care
• You can see any doctor in the U.S. that accepts Medicare
• Costs tend to be more predictable

Supplements help cover many of the gaps that Original Medicare doesn’t pay.

One thing a lot of people don’t realize…

When you first start Medicare, you have a Medigap open enrollment window where you can sign up without being denied.

After that window closes, switching from an Advantage plan to a Supplement may require medical underwriting, which means approval isn’t always guaranteed.

That’s why it’s important to understand the differences before choosing a plan.

The bottom line

There isn’t one plan that’s “best” for everyone.

The right choice usually depends on things like:

• your health
• your doctors
• whether you travel
• and your monthly budget

If you're turning 65 or trying to compare plans, feel free to message me. I'm always happy to help people understand their options before they make a decision.

⚠️ Turning 65 but Still Working? Your Employer Size Could Change Everything.
Many people assume that if they’re still working and have health insurance through their job, they can simply delay Medicare.
But it’s not that simple.
When it comes to Medicare, the size of your employer determines how your coverage works — and getting it wrong can lead to penalties, coverage gaps, or claims not being paid.
Here’s the basic rule most people don’t hear about until it’s too late:
👥 If Your Employer Has 20 or More Employees
Your employer coverage is usually primary, and Medicare is secondary.
That means:
✔️ You can typically delay Medicare Part B without a penalty
✔️ Your employer plan pays first
✔️ Medicare would only pay after your group coverage
✔️ Many people stay on their employer plan until retirement

👥 If Your Employer Has Fewer Than 20 Employees
This is where things change.
Medicare becomes primary, and your employer plan becomes secondary.
If you don’t enroll in Medicare when you’re supposed to:
⚠️ Your employer plan may expect Medicare to pay first
⚠️ Claims could be denied or only partially covered
⚠️ You could face permanent late enrollment penalties
Having employer insurance alone may not be enough.

The Bottom Line
Large employer (20+ employees):
You can usually delay Medicare Part B.
Small employer (under 20 employees):
You may need to enroll in Medicare at 65 to avoid problems.
Because every situation is different, it’s worth reviewing your coverage before making a decision.
