Big news for homebuyers and the mortgage industry 👏

For years, one of the most frustrating parts of applying for a mortgage has had nothing to do with the actual loan process.

It’s the flood of calls that start almost immediately after a credit report is pulled.

Many buyers apply with a lender they trust… and within minutes their phone starts ringing from lenders they’ve never heard of. Sometimes dozens of calls in a single day.

Most people assume their lender shared their information.

But that’s actually not what happens.

When a mortgage credit report is pulled, the credit bureaus have historically been allowed to sell that inquiry data as a “trigger lead” to other lenders and marketing companies. Those companies then reach out to the borrower trying to compete for the loan.

The good news is that this practice is finally being addressed.

The Homebuyers Privacy Protection Act is moving forward and will significantly limit the ability of credit bureaus to sell this information unless the consumer gives permission or already has a relationship with the lender contacting them.

What this means for borrowers:

✔ Far fewer unsolicited calls
✔ More privacy during the mortgage process
✔ A better experience working with the lender you actually chose

For those of us who build our business on relationships, referrals, and trust, this is a very positive step for the industry and for the clients we serve.
