Do not do business with Tint man Dan .. He's a thief, a liar and an unethical business owner. My name is Sean Grant, owner and founder of Elite Insurance of Merrillville in Northwest Indiana for over 15 years and I firmly believe in supporting our local businesses. On October 23rd 2024. I acquired the tinting services of Dan the tint man at his shop located at 4700 Cleveland Street Gary Indiana.
Upon entering the shop reception area. I found it to be dark and very dreary. Unwelcoming for the most part but I wasn't there for the ambiance... As if you were entering a hole in the wall nightclub. I entered his shop after purchasing a new vehicle to have my windows tinted and after deciding what kind of tinting I wanted on my new vehicle. I had used his services years prior and was somewhat confident that he could provide me with the quality of tint job that I needed. The young mature lady at the counter quoted me $400... For the tint job. Hear me out this is not a threat
I thought it was a little pricey so I asked her to ask Dan tint man who at this point was in the back of the shop. Does he offer any discounts to his local business owners... He told her to tell me whatever price she quoted me was my discount... I found that statement to be a little brash and I was a little taken back from there but I didn't let it deter me from getting the tent I needed. The fact that he had no sensitivity for his fellow business owners. After waiting in the store's customer waiting area for over 4 hours it was the end of the business day and my car was finished.
My car was completed and I headed home.. Immediately after getting home and pulling into the garage I noticed that the rear passenger tint window had begun to curl or slide down and that the silver bracelet that I've been wearing on my wrist for over 20 years was missing. I immediately begin to rethink my day and where I may have lost it. I had only been to 3 places that day. In the car with the Uber driver that took me to the car dealer. The car dealer, and Dan tint shop. In the back of my mind I needed to go back to Dan shop in regards to the tint issue and I would inquire about the bracelet then. The following day, after checking with Uber and the car dealer who said that they had not seen my silver bracelet. I headed to Dan's Tint Shop. I found Dan out front of his shop with one of his employees and a customer discussing the customer issue... Being respectful as one business man to another. I stood there letting them complete their conversation... After which I pointed out to Dan the imperfection in my passenger side rear window... Forgetting to also inquire about the silver bracelet. He showed me how this occurred and how to avoid it in the future and recommended I bring it in the following morning and he would cure that issue... Which I did... This is October the 24th 2024.
On the next day October 25th 2024 upon entering Dan's Tint Shop. I asked the same receptionist if anyone found my silver bracelet from the day that I was there October 23rd 2024. She did not say that there was not a silver bracelet found. Which led me to believe that there was a silver bracelet found. She said Dan was not in yet but would ask him about the silver bracelet when he came in. Her response to me led me to believe that there was a bracelet found but she was not sure whether or not Dan what's going to acknowledge that he had found it.
After waiting over an hour that morning I noticed Dan coming in through the garage of his shop. And I approached him. I was fortunate enough to catch him before she could brief him about my question... I asked Dan about the lost silver bracelet in his customers waiting area and he seemed to immediately get defensive. He immediately said yes he found the bracelet and gave it to his daughter who's home from college on break... I expressed to him that my concern about this bracelet, even though it was a monetary loss, was more of an emotional and sentimental loss for me. Which I ignored hoping to get my bracelet back. He began to speak defensively and in a sense harshly hoping that I would join in. At one point he said if I had wanted my bracelet I wouldn't have lost it. I could see that he is the type of person who wanted to start a confrontation to avoid returning my property. My last and final attempt to reason and request him to return my item ended with him telling me to go f***k myself. He had the bracelet in his possession all he had to do was leave it in the office if intended on giving it back to its original owner within a reasonable amount of time. If Dan ever intended on returning the bracelet back to the rightful owner it would have never left his shop.
I didn't let things get out of hand. My immediate response was okay... He said come back the following day he would get the bracelet back from her and return it to me... Unfortunately the next day he informed me that his daughter had lost the bracelet... He would look for it and contact me the next day... He has never contacted me. I have continuously called in regards to the bracelet... With no response from him other than they're looking for it... At one point I said to him you had to have known this bracelet was lost by one of your customers finding it in the customer waiting area... He replied to me that they only hold lost items for 2 days... I informed him that it was within the two days that I inquired about the bracelet... These types of statements are generally made to be obstacles when trying to retrieve a lost or stolen item... Our excuses and defense for the person that does not want to return something that does not belong to them.... At this point I do not consider my silver bracelet as lost but stolen from me by a local business owner... Tint man Dan. It is of my opinion that from the moment Dan found my silver bracelet that he decided it was something that he wanted and was not going to return it. He's a thief and a liar and I would not use his Services because they do not reflect our Gary,IN community morals and values nor do they reflect the other businessmen and women in Northwest Indiana... Avoid this tint shop at all costs...
