Most people assume their homeowners insurance covers everything they own.

The reality? Some of your most valuable possessions may have limited coverage under a standard homeowners policy.

A true story from this month:

A woman reached out to me with a question about her auto insurance. She had recently gotten married and was surprised to see her premium increase after notifying her insurance company. The reason? Her husband's driving record was being factored into the household risk, even though he had his own separate auto policy.

As we talked, I explained that if her premium was already being impacted, it might make sense to explore combining their policies. By doing so, they could potentially qualify for multi-vehicle and multi-driver discounts while simplifying their coverage.

After reviewing their situation, they combined the policies and are now saving money each month while having all of their vehicles covered under one easy-to-manage policy.

Here's the important part: they're not my clients, and I didn't write the policy.

Once you see it, it’s too late.
Mold and rot damage are only covered under your Homeowners policy if the problem is hidden, unknown, and located between walls or ceilings.
