The STEPS to Stability Utility Assistance Program is now accepting applications from eligible Hamilton County residents for assistance with Duke Energy utility bills.

Eligibility Criteria:
*Hamilton County resident age 60 and over
*You must have your Duke Account Number available in order to apply. Applications will not be accepted without the Duke Account Number.
*You must NOT have received this assistance in 2025.
*Older adult or other family member in the household currently paying the utility bill
*Ineligible for other assistance programs (excluding HEAP)
*Household income of 300% of poverty level or below, following the guidelines below (Social Security is considered income):
$47,880 for a household of one
$64,920 for a household of two
$81,960 for a household of three
$99,000 for a household of four

Breaking GLP-1 News for Medicare Recipients!

On May 6th, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced a new “Medicare GLP-1 Bridge” program, which could allow eligible Medicare beneficiaries to access certain GLP-1 medications for just $`50 per month beginning July 1, 2026.

These medications, commonly used for weight loss and related health conditions, have often been difficult for seniors to afford due to high out of pocket costs.

Here are the key takeaways:

✅ Eligible Medicare Part D members may qualify
✅ Monthly costs could be capped at `$50
✅ The program runs from July 2026 through December 2027
✅ Designed to improve access to innovative weight loss treatments
✅ Beneficiaries should speak with their doctor to determine if a GLP-1 medication is appropriate

According to the release, additional details about eligibility and participating medications will be released closer to launch.

This could become a major development for Medicare beneficiaries managing obesity and related chronic health conditions.
