Dear SBIAA Members,

SBIAA is actively monitoring any information provided by the Center for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) and local health officials in LA. We are taking the necessary precautions and actions to ensure our members safety. As you may be aware, verified cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) have been identified in the State of California in both Orange and LA Counties. As a leadership team, we believe now is the time to err on the side of caution.

Given the rising tide of cases, recommendations from the CDC to practice social distancing to prevent the spread of disease, and a 14 day incubation time before the virus produces effects - We believe that it is in our community’s best interest to now cancel our Holi event (March 22nd).

Due to the nature of this event, involving contact, it would be hard to protect our members from the risk of infection, while compromising the enjoyment and purpose of the event.

Additionally, we have concerns about our upcoming culture show. As you know our culture show practices incorporate many participants teams from across many Southern Californian cities. We feel the right thing to do is temporarily postpone the culture show to minimize the risk to our members, and halt all practices/preparation until a new date is determined. We will do our best to give our members ample notice for the new date, so that as many of our current cultural show participants can continue to participate.

Let's proceed responsibly with the greater community in mind. Our goal is simply to err on the side of caution. While mortality rates are low among those under 60 years of age, our goal is to follow recommendations from public health authorities and to help the CDC and local communities prevent the spread of this disease.

Thank you for your understanding,

Puneet Shah & Sai Patil
