Most people think leadership is about having the right answers.
I've learned it's more about asking the right questions.
As a CFO, my responsibility isn't simply to approve budgets or review financial statements. It's to ask the questions that challenge assumptions before they become costly mistakes.
1. What risk are we overlooking?
2. What happens if this storm lasts twice as long?
3. Are we investing in long-term capability or simply solving today's problem?
4. If we make this decision today, how will it impact us a year from now?
The best financial leaders don't slow organizations down.
They create clarity.
When finance is embedded in operations—not sitting on the sidelines—it becomes a strategic advantage. It helps organizations move faster, allocate capital more effectively, and make better decisions when the pressure is highest.
The most valuable person in the room isn't always the one with the answers.
It's often the one asking the question no one else thought to ask.
What's the one question that has most influenced the way you lead?
