Important News! Many immigrant parents (who moved here to live with family after working years in their home countries) are now having problems with health insurance - cancellations and unaffordable premiums - as a result of an "unpublicized" change made by IRS in September which eliminated subsidies for many them for their Affordable Healthcare policies. (Access Health CT never notified either the clients nor brokers about this). AHCT clients are being redirected to DSS for "Husky C" which is a very-low income, asset spenddown-to-poverty Medicaid program. Being forced into complete poverty is UNNECESSARY! Not to mention undignified.

This is important, if you have life insurance, have applied, have been thinking about it, or want to provide more for your loved ones. A contract is a contract, enforceable, but expect changes for new applications going forward.

I believe disability insurance will be affected too. So long as there's no pandemic exclusion, existing coverage should be fine, but the industry will have to make changes going forward as the basic business model assumptions change due to COVID-19. That's what actuaries do for a living.

Americans who have life insurance will be covered should they die from Covid-19, the disease caused by the new coronavirus, but those who lack coverage or are underinsured should consider moving soon before coverage options dry up.

URGENT - Need health insurance? Due to Coronavirus, Access Health CT has opened a Special Enrollment Period - through April 2nd, only - for uninsureds to enroll again in coverage. Brokers can't do it - call Access Health CT directly at 855-365-2428 (special line), M-F 8-5. Other states that have special enrollment periods include MA, NY, RI, CO, CA, WA and NV. The states other states, using healthcare.gov, don't have this available presently. If you know uninsured people, let them know!

IMPORTANT - Individual health insurance updates:
Access Health CT announced this morning an extension from December 15 to January 15, 2020.
Apparently enrollments through 12/15 were below target.
New plan enrollments will start February 1, 2020.
If you want to change a plan you already selected, you must make the change by Jan 15th, pay the original premium for January, and then you will switch plans on February 1st.

Access Health CT extension update: Enrollment (or changes) will be permitted through January 15th. Coverage will begin Feb 1. If you’re already enrolled in a plan and want to change, you’ll still need to pay the January premium.
If you’re self employed and think you might be on the wrong plan, PM me. (Let’s be realistic, the call center isn’t equipped to help you translate your tax situation into the quirky AHCT app correctly.)
I will be actively working the extended enrollment period after New Year’s.

Getting ready for Open Enrollment seasons for Medicare and Individual Health insurance!
Medicare is open October 15-December 7. Individual Health is open November 1-December 15. Lots of new developments in both areas and I am adding some new companies!
