Financi-FI Coach

Financi-FI Coach My passion is helping military and veteran families break free from debt so they can finally build financial stability.

Jex is a Marine Corps veteran, an Army spouse, and a mom to two amazing daughters- and she knows firsthand how stressful and unpredictable military life can be. As a financial coach, she helps military families clarify their goals, simplify their money, and create financial stability that fits their life. For some, that means creating a spending plan that finally works. For others, it’s paying dow

n debt, saving for the future, or simply feeling less anxious about money. Whatever financial stability looks like for you, we’ll define it together and make it happen, one step at a time.

While I primarily focus on cash flow, money management, and money mindset with clients, I'm seeing a lot of online chatter about last week's events and how they're impacting current stock prices. Personally, I'm a buy-and-hold investor. While my husband and I plan to FIRE (our personal take is: Financially Independent, Recreationally Employed), we don't expect to significantly withdraw from our retirement accounts for at least a decade. Historically, that's plenty of time for our assets to recover from any downturn or recession.

I have two end-of-month traditions. One is to check the balance of all of our bank accounts and investment accounts and input them into our family's net worth tracker. The other is to look back at the last month's spending. These two activities help me keep a pulse on our finances from both the long-term and the short-term perspective.

When you look back on February's spending, does anything in particular stand out to you? Does one category seem surprisingly high? Is another category lower than you thought? Acknowledgement is the first step toward change. Share your observations in the comments below!

As humans, we often equate price with value. If it's expensive, it must be worth that much, right?

However, what about the subscription you pay for but never use anymore? You are paying a price, but not receiving any value. When I look at a client's budget with them, one of the lenses we use is, "Is this purchase worth it to you?" Different clients have different answers because we're different people with different values. And that's one of the coolest parts of my job- learning what is important to each client.

Is there a line item in your budget that provides a lot of value to you? Share it in the comments!

"The more I pay attention to my money, the bigger my goals get." This is something a client said after two months of coaching, and I smile every time I remember it. This client made decent money, but he didn't know where his money was going and he was struggling to pay bills on time. Within a few weeks, he had clarity on his spending habits, which expenses were serving him and which expenses he wanted to reduce or eliminate. In just two months, his financial goals grew from paying bills on time, to saving an emergency fund, to planning a home remodel! That's a lot of growth in a short time. What's your current money goal? Comment below!

I'm taking a course called Applied Behavioral Finance, and it's all about how our emotions, personalities, and past experiences shape our financial behaviors and decisions. While many people- financial professionals included- think that personal finance is primarily a math-based field, that's only the tip of the iceberg. The root of most of our personal finance decisions have nothing to do with dollars and cents.

What emotions were you feeling the last time you made an important financial decision? Comment below!

Happy Valentine's Day! While the retail industry wants us to believe that today is about buying chocolates, flowers, and adorable stuffed animals for our loved ones, it's important to remember that today is about showing love, and that there are many ways to do that. For some people, showing love is holding hands while talking a walk around the neighborhood or enjoying the sunset together from your front porch. For others, it IS buying gifts for those they care about. Comment below and share how you're showing your love this weekend!

One of the most rewarding parts about being a financial coach is hearing clients share their intangible wins. Yes we often reduce expenses, yes we make a spending plan, yes we pay down debt, but those are all ACTIONS. The RESULTS are often immeasurable- more confidence, less stress and anxiety, better connection with a partner, and a general increase in happiness and quality of life. To learn how coaching can help YOU achieve these things, schedule a Q&A Call today! https://www.financificoach.com/book-online

I’ve been working on my growth mindset, and I chose the following as my affirmation for the last week. In a meeting today, I heard my client describe this exact sensation in slightly different words. It highlighted to me that we all sometimes need reminders that we CAN make the changes we desire, and that we CAN become the person we want to become. What changes are you making in your life? Everyone experiences money challenges at some point- often at many points- during their lives. And those money challenges can change:
- College students are often broke.
- Recent graduates often have burdensome student loans.
- Dual-income couples often want to be smart with where they put their savings.
- New parents are sleep-deprived and spend money on conveniences. And childcare. Lots and lots of childcare.
- Parents of high schoolers often worry about college costs.
- And once you've run the gamut of worries above, you finally have time to worry about retirement.

It's no wonder that money is a leading cause of stress and divorce in the US. If you want to talk about your money challenges but don't know where to turn, send me a PM and I'll share some resources that help you address your current money challenge.

I recently had an incredibly productive Discovery Call with a new client who felt empowered, not restricted, after we created a plan to make her money less stressful. For me, a budget isn't about cutting out lattes, it's about intentional spending.
