Let me ask you something I ask almost every founder I meet.

How much cash does your business have right now? Like, today?

Most people pause. And I get it. You know your revenue, because that’s the number everyone asks about at events and on panels. But revenue isn’t really what decides if you can make that hire or take that next step next week.

So I put together the five numbers I’d want you to be able to find.

And please don’t try to memorize them. Seriously. They change every month. I’d much rather you know exactly where to look and trust that what you find is current.

I used to dread every "first." 🤍

Every stage, every new room, there was that little voice asking, "Who are you to be up there?"

What I've learned is that ready usually shows up after you begin, not before. The nerves don't mean you're in the wrong place. Sometimes they just mean it matters.

If you've been putting something off because you're nervous about trying it, I understand. But I hope you give yourself the chance to try.

Some of the hardest months in business aren’t the slow ones. They’re the months right after a big payment comes in.

I see this often with founders who have seasonal sales or one large contract that pays once or twice a year. The money lands, the account looks healthy, and it feels like permission to finally hire, invest, or catch up on everything that’s been waiting.

Then a few months later, the expenses are still showing up, but the revenue isn’t.

Nothing went wrong in that business. The timing just wasn’t part of the plan.

Revenue tells you how much came in. Cash flow tells you whether it will last until the next time it does. When your income arrives in waves, that second question matters more than the first.

So before you decide what that payment can do for your business, ask a quieter question: how many months does this money need to carry?

That one question can change how you see your entire year.

Your revenue is information, not a mood ring.

Two habits for today:

1️⃣ Don’t let the number decide for you. Swap “What did I do wrong?” for “How can I use this to make a better decision?” Look at your margins, look for the shift, look for the opportunity.

2️⃣ Enjoy what the number makes possible. That trip you keep putting off? Your business is supposed to support your life, not replace it.

Build it seriously. Take care of yourself while you do. 🤍

It's a paycheck they can count on, help they can finally afford, or time away that doesn't make them nervous.

These are the five things I do before I travel so the business doesn't need me while I'm gone. The one that changed the most for me was sitting down with my team on who owns what, and what they can decide without me. That's when I stopped checking in.

Your tax bill is decided long before your return is prepared. The return just tells you about it.

The good news? A tax reserve works a lot like payroll. Once it is part of the monthly rhythm, the payment stops feeling like a hit.

October 15 is next week. And the 2026 tax year still has a full quarter left, so there is time to make next April feel very different.

Every year, someone asks me in March, "Ramona, what can we do about this tax bill?"
And every year, I wish we had that conversation in October. 😊

Not because anyone did something wrong. Running a business is a lot, and taxes always feel like a later problem.

But the year does not wait. By the time it is over, your decisions are already made.

Here is the good news. We still have almost three months left in the year. That is real time to look at your numbers, ask the questions, and make choices on purpose.
