Using life insurance to protect a mortgage.

Concept Description:
Life insurance can allow a family to stay in their current home; and with a cash value life insurance policy, the client also has an opportunity to use the cash accumulation to help pay the mortgage off early. It's a good idea for new homeowners and couples who have a young family

How it Works:
With term insurance, the client purchases a life insurance policy and if the owner should die unexpectedly, the surviving spouse can use the proceeds to pay off the mortgage.

With universal life insurance, the surviving spouse would also receive a death benefit in the event of an untimely death. However, with a universal life policy once the cash value equals the amount of the outstanding mortgage, if the insured survives, the funds can be used to prepay the mortgage. Prepaying will significantly reduce the amount of mortgage interest paid over time
