L 8 is just about ready to make it's premier in mid-Sept. This year's issue sports a smaller crew: 136 writers and 19 artists. But don't think it's any less potent than in previous years! No siree! There are still a wide array of powerhouse poets like Austin Alexis (NY), Lynn Bronstein (CA), Brenton Booth (Australia), Wayne Burke (VT), Don Campbell (CA), Alan Catlin (NY), Patrick Connors (Canada), Henry Crawford (MD), Steve Dalachinsky (NY), Alexis Fancher (CA), Joseph Farley (PA), Denis Formento (LA), Bill Gainer CA), Clarinda Harriss (MD), Frank Kearns (CA), Kyle Laws (CO), John B. Lee (Canada), Linda Lerner (NY), Bernice Lever (Canada), Jane Lipman (NM), John Macker (NM), Basia Miller (NM), Elaine Mintzer (CA), Tony Moffeit (CO), Linda Neal (CA), Jeannine Pitas (IA), Kevin Ridgeway (CA), Judith Robinson (PA), Gerard Sarnat (CA), Clifton Snider (CA), t.k. Splake (WI), G. Murray Thomas (NY), and Maja Trochimczyk (CA).... from half the USA, plus Canada, Australia and Portugal (you gotta love those expats).
There's the Micro-Fiction section which continues to grow. This year it features RD Armstrong; Seven Dhar; Helen Donahoe; Alexis Fancher; Roseanna Frechette; Michael Meloan; Jeanine Stevens; H. Lamar Thomas and Felice Zoota-Lucero. BTW Micro fiction in this case is less than 900 words.
Then there's the articles/essays: RD Armstrong takes on the WALT WHITMAN Myth (includes poems by Henry Crawford and Gil Hagen Hill); Hiram Larew explains his dream of stamping out world hunger in our lifetime (!) through the POETRY X HUNGER project; John Macker shares a sweet rememberance of TONY SCIBELLA (poet with deep roots in the free verse ouvre); Santa Fe poet Basia Miller pays HOMAGE TO PIERRE SEGHERS (a French publisher who changed the face poetry in France for thirty years); Charles Plymell of Cherry Valley, NY (and Zap Comics fame) tells part one of the story of EATING AND DRINKING WITH THE BEATS (Allen Ginsburg etal); Coco Ramirez pens a confessional memoir of LIVING ON THE EDGE (depression is a harrowing experience); M.G. Stephens recalls MEMORIES OF HUBERT "CUBBY" SELBY (in the same league as William S. Burroughs); our old buddy G. Murray Thomas takes a look at individualism and the group mind in ANTS and Bill Tremblay shares his NOTES ON THE ART OF NORMAN OLSON.
Speaking of Art, we've got a wide range of styles and medium by: Jay Blommer, Peter Bruun, Chuka Chesney , Beverley Collins, Kit Courter, Theresa Dvoracek, Steve Dalachinsky, Alexis Fancher, Dennis Formento, Charles Harmon, Clarinda Harris, Jackie Joice, Norman Olson, Raindog, Jen Dunford-Roskos, t. k. Splake, Patti Sulivan, Richard Vidan, and an unknown photog.
Then there are 5 reviews: RD tackles John Macker's The Blues Drink Your Dreams Away; Linda Lerner takes on Crazy Cafe by Francine Witte; Thelma T. Reyna tells us about the New Found Land by Caroline Clark; this year's contest winner, Nancy Shiffrin taks us back some years to a book by David Del Bourgo called Fairfax and Other Poems and Donna Snyder (Tumblewords Project) gushes about Robin Scofield's Flow.
As always Chris Yeseta and I (RD) are pleased with this issue and hope that you'll want to get a copy... Makes a hell of a stocking stuffer! $25 shipping included (USA only) gets you 218 pages of poetic wonderfulness. Book goes on sale on Sept. 15th '19. Order it through Amazon if you must but support the Lummox Press by ordering direct if you can! Order at https://www.lummoxpress.com/lc/lummox-number-eight/

Lummox Number Eight Poetry Anthology #8 and Contest This year more than ever, I am indebted to the PATRONS without whom I don’t know where I would be (not that I’m saying that I’d be out on the street but I’d certainly be living on Top Ramen – definitely off my diet). To that end, a big he...
