Our mission is to support breast cancer victims and survivors of cancer and give them the opportunity to live a comfortable life. I’ve been proudly serving our community as a firefighter for 29 years. This is a job where you take action, and when firefighters see something wrong, we try to fix it. So when I learned about Dee Dee Edmonds and her struggle with breast cancer, I immediately wanted to
help. Back in October 2010, she was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer. Many women with that diagnosis live only a few years. But Dee Dee has a daughter who was just 13 years old in 2010, and she prayed to God to let her live long enough to see her daughter Kaelee graduate. Dee Dee started chemotherapy to treat cancer in her breast, liver, and lung—three bags of toxic chemicals every Wednesday for almost a year. During that time, her hair fell out. And she learned that cancer treatment comes with many costs. It is emotionally draining. It causes new health problems, like fatigue and blood clots. And it’s expensive. Insurance does not cover all the bills that come with cancer treatments. And even with health insurance, if you can’t work, those expenses add up fast: copays for the chemotherapy, prescription medications, a special bra, a wig…the list goes on. But six years after her diagnosis, she has seen her daughter graduate. She continues to get bloodwork done at least every other week to watch for signs that the cancer is growing. She says that cancer is 70% mental and 30% what happens to your body. So when someone reaches out to show they care, it has a huge impact on her. I started this page because I believe Dee Dee deserves the support of our community. Every dollar that we’re able to share with her will ease her burden a little bit more. I hope you’ll join me in helping this remarkable woman.
