It is almost never the stranger.

Research is clear: 9 out of 10 children who are sexually abused are harmed by someone they already know and trust. A coach. A mentor. A volunteer. A youth leader. Someone your organization welcomed through the front door.

Predators do not come in looking suspicious. They come in looking helpful. They show up early, stay late, volunteer for everything, and build trust with your staff before they ever cross a line with a child.

Most organizations have no system to catch what is happening until it is too late.

Your team needs to know what grooming looks like. They need two-adult policies, open-door rules, and a clear reporting protocol. Not because your people are bad. Because without a system, even the best people can miss it.

Think about the kids in your program right now.

According to the CDC, 1 in 4 girls and 1 in 13 boys will experience sexual abuse before their 18th birthday.

That is not a distant statistic. Those are kids already sitting in your program, on your team, in your youth group right now.

And the majority of them will never tell a single adult.

The question is not whether this could happen in your organization. The question is whether your organization would even recognize it if it did. Would your staff know the warning signs? Would your kids feel safe enough to say something? Would your team know exactly what to do next?

Let me ask you something direct.

Your organization has a fire evacuation plan. You probably have one for medical emergencies too. But what happens if a child is being sexually abused inside your walls? What is your written protocol?

If the answer is "we would handle it" or "we would figure it out", that is not a policy. And when a lawsuit comes, "we had good intentions" will not hold up in court.
